This trip didn%26#39;t get off to a good start because I missed my train to 30th St in Philly and had to catch the next one an hour later. I got to 30th St. Station (check out the architecture if you%26#39;re there some time - the place is gorgeous!) just in time to miss the train I wanted, 12:00 noon on the dot. So I got the next train out at 1:40 and got in at 3:20, wondering if they would still have the GPS at Borgota. Went over there and zipped over (love that scooter!) to Mixx, where there was no line and I got to skip the maze line because of the scooter. I got the GPS (with a nice case) very quickly and easily, a far cry from other giveaways. I still don%26#39;t know which model it is, but the lack of an SD card slot seems to indicate first generation. It%26#39;s still a nice gift, and someone will likely get it for a birthday this summer. Just in case, I checked for slot dollars and was pleased to find $50 in my account. I played video poker for about 30 minutes and cashed out $44 without putting in a dime of my money.
I got the jitney (2 minute wait, I was on a roll!) and headed over to Trump for the Pick a Gift giveaway and to get a horse for the Preakness (I got number 7, no winner). I didn%26#39;t remember it on the invite, but I had to play 30 minutes before getting the ';free gift'; so used a trick Ambrva taught me, playing quarter video poker for 30 minutes, playing only one quarter at a time. So I got in my 30 minutes and cashed out down $3, lol. BUT I was in a casino and hadn%26#39;t even touched a slot, so opted for a little play on ';Open the Vault'; one of the cascading reels games, where winning symbols drop away to be replaced by new symbols. I began with $37 in the machine, promising myself I%26#39;d quit when I got down to $20. That machine began seriously cold, giving me dribs and drabs, usually paying out less than I had bet (20 cents a spin to start). By the time I got to $20, I was betting 60 cents a spin and getting some wins, so said the heck with it and increased it to $1/spin. 4 or 5 spins later, I got 5 tellers (with two wilds) for a $250 hit. So I cashed out for $268 (never did get the bonus round) and called it a day for gambling.
Got the voucher for my free gift and found the ballroom (in the back of beyond) where they were offering stuff. I saw a lot of people walking out with inflatable beds, and figured that was the only thing left. Surprisingly, they had all 6 of the gifts they began the event with available at 6pm with an hour left. They had 3 glassware things I didn%26#39;t care about, the inflatable bed (sold on Woot.com days before for $30) a coffee machine and the thing I chose, (on the advice of a handsome older gentleman I%26#39;d spoken to an hour before) a 10 piece martini set. Of course, that 10 piece part is deceiving as they counted the 4 etched glasses and 4 glass olive sticks/drink mixers separately. I%26#39;m surprised they didn%26#39;t count the lid of the martini shaker too, making it 11 pieces with the steel drink tray. It looked to be a nice set, but I haven%26#39;t checked it out yet.
I had planned to use up my comp $$ earned on Playaway, as they expire in the next few days, but didn%26#39;t have the time for a real meal. I opted to try Burger, as I vaguely remember hearing good things about it on here. I got the bacon cheeseburger and onion rings to go, as I had to catch the train shuttle within minutes. I ate half of both on the train - the burger was HUGE! And the onion rings were plentiful and good - definitely a place to keep in mind for future visits.
Another thing is that I hadn%26#39;t brought a jacket with me as I thought the forecast was for the high 60%26#39;s, low 70%26#39;s in AC. Bad move as the wind made it a LOT colder than that, so I ended up getting another AC sweatshirt on the boardwalk. Not a bad deal tho - I got a warm button down sweatshirt for $13, which will go into my collection as soon as I wash off the ketchup and mayo I spilled on it from my burger, lol.
After all that, I got home about midnight thanks to a wait for a SEPTA bus that showed 45 minutes late. All in all a good trip, with two ';free'; gifts and up almost $300. Nice way to spend a Saturday, tho I%26#39;m thinking next week will be better with the meet up at the Irish Pub. :-)

Sounds like you made out great, congrats.

Hey Sue!
Wow! I can%26#39;t believe you jammed all that into less than twelve hours. Fun!
First of all I am curious about the train situation between Philly and AC. I%26#39;d read (here) some months ago they were running a ';connector'; bus at some point along the route. I guess that is no longer the case? I%26#39;ve also read that if I ever decided to go that (train) route I%26#39;d want to buy Amtrak between Harrisburg and Philly 30th Street and then purchase a NJ Transit ticket on to AC. I%26#39;m asking because if I plug in an AC destination on the Amtrak site, I can buy a ticket straight through, but I think it is more expensive that way. Once every great while I have the need to get to AC without a car and I%26#39;d like to have the train option. Any light you can share would be appreciated. TIA
I am also very sad to see the end of the TRump Playaway as the $$ got me trying some new places. Dang.
You also made me laugh when you ended up buying another sweatshirt. Don%26#39;t know how many times I%26#39;ve arrived missing socks or sunglasses or flipflops requiring. . . SHOPPING!
Very much enjoyed your report and am looking forward to (FINALLY!) meeting you at the Irish Pub on Saturday.
Sounds like you had a fun day! Got 2 nice gifts... Laughed about the sweatshirt and needing to wash it already from the burger!
Fun trip!
They still have a bus run wekday mornings through mid-afternoon:
www.njtransit.com/sa/sa_servlet.srv…
The buses are the tour bus/Greyhound type - they%26#39;re actually a bit more comfy than the regular NJ Transit trains.
The fare each way from Philly to AC is $8.00.
One cool thing for casino goers - if you use cash in the ticket machines they give change in $1 coins - perfect for tipping your CWs (%26amp; makes it easier to keep track of how much you%26#39;ve had to drink!)
gotta love a regular who knows her way around enough to get the most out of all the promos. thanks for sharing the already shared info about playing for 30 min. i get alot of those from trump marina and ill try that next time instead of vblowing 100 for 25 free.
Glad you had fun!
The same thing happened to me with the weather. It was 80+ degrees when I headed out Friday with no coat. It was 52 degrees this morning when I headed home (with no coat).
%26gt;%26gt;if I plug in an AC destination on the Amtrak site, I can buy a ticket straight through, but I think it is more expensive that way.%26lt;%26lt; I know u can buy NJTransit tix for AC line thru AMTRAK. I have never done it. but I believe it is same price. on 1 super~crowded train [b4 NJTransit had the sense to add more cars on holidays] a man w/a prosthetic arm that remained in my lap the entire trip, had purchased his NJTransit AC line tix thru AMTRAK %26amp; he did not pay a premium.
