Summer Traffic

I will be traveling up Saturday August 15th from MD (crossing the Delaware Memorial bridge). Should I take 40 south all the way or go up the turnpike to the expressway? Also, what time do the roads start getting bad in NJ from beach traffic on a saturday morning?

Summer Traffic

Saturday is the change over day for weekly shore rentals. Most weekly rentals end between 10 and 11AM on Saturday and most rentals start between 2 and 3 PM on Saturday. Timing is everything when traveling on a Saturday in the Summer. The GSP is crowded northbound in the morning and crowded southbound from the late morning on. I would imagine the AC expressway would follow a similar pattern with the mornings being busiest going away from the shore and to the shore picking up in the later morning. Time your trip accordingly!

Summer Traffic

As someone who has to make the trek every Saturday to change over our rental house, I can tell you that the Expressway Eastbound starts to choke up by 9 am in the area of the interchange with the Parkway (Exit 7)and Route 55. However, if you stay in the left lanes you can bypass all of that traffic. If you can get on the ACE from the Turnpike before 7 am or after 3 pm you should have no trouble.

Rt40 will be lots of signals and will add time. u can take ext2 to Rt322, which also has signals, but less ~ there is a tricky turn in Glassboro to continue on Rt322

or u can take I295N to Rt42SOUTH for all hiway driving [rt42S turns into AC Expwy], but this is tricky also directions for this:

From Del Mem Bridge, 295 N

(Note: good Wawa / restrooms exit 10)

Go to mile 25.5, get in middle lane

When you come down the ramp, look for sign “TO LOCAL 76” (get over 1 lane to left)

This is usually a busy traffic area!

In a very short dist, take exit 1C (right exit)

Go to top of ramp, turn left at stop sign

Cross bridge, take next right exit, sign says “TO 42”

Follow 76S, turns into 42S, go about 7 miles

Left lanes become AC Expressway

Travel 42 miles to AC

I have done the Glassboro way and could probably find my way again (especially with NAVI assitance). But have never done the route 42 way. I may try 322 again. Thank you!
