Mothers Day Brunch A/C area?

If your group includes at least 10 people, maybe, just maybe, you might be able to get a reservation for the Brunch buffet at the Smithville Inn. It starts at 10 am. Maybe you can say please, please for less than 10 people, can’t hurt to try. Good luck as this is one of the busiest days of the year for nice restaurants.

And a very Happy Mothers Day to All!

The Renault Winery has a nice brunch... thats not too far..

3 night minimum at hotels in Cape May

Does anyone know of a nice hotel near the beach in Cape May that does not have a 3 night minimum during the summer. We are staying three nights at the Victoria but am looking for one more motel without a minimum night stay - Friday to Sunday. Thanks.

3 night minimum at hotels in Cape May

Hello Judy,

This early in the year everyone is likely to have a three night minimum. Everyone! As the season gets closer and properties begin to fill (hopefully) spaces begin to exist that need to be booked.

The trick is for you to find a motel%26#39;s space that meets your needs.

Try the Camelot Motel or the Montreal Motel on Beach.

Both have been taking reservations now for a while and you might get lucky.

John,

The Victorian Motel

3 night minimum at hotels in Cape May

John took the words out of my mouth, or keyboard, as it were. The only chance you%26#39;ll have of securing one day during the season is to catch a lucky break and fill a gap. Surprisingly, it happens all the time. One party makes a reservation from Sunday to Friday and another party makes one from Sunday to Tuesday. That leaves a gap of one day in between for someone like you, who only needs one day.

Years ago, one of my friends and I would make a habit of coming to Cape May whenever the feeling hit us during the season. We%26#39;d just jump in the car and drive down, with no planning and no reservations. I%26#39;d say we did it 20 or 30 times over the course of a couple years and not once did we find outselves without a room.

We visited during all parts of the season, including Memorial Day weekend and during the July 4th weekend. There was always something available, be it through a gap like I mentioned above or via a cancellation. It%26#39;s really a numbers game, there are many hotels/motels in Cape May with thousands of rooms.

I%26#39;d recommend waiting until you come closer to the time you%26#39;re supposed to come down and visit this site- http://www.capemaylodging.com/ It was created by people in the hospitality business in Cape May, who also use it themselves to recommend another place to stay when they%26#39;re booked. Another option is to work through the Chamber of Commerce, or even to take our old approach and just find a room when you come down.

Ben Miller

Thanks Ben!

You articulated that well. However if anyone ever considered coming on a Holiday weekend with out a reservation I would start my trip early in the day.

Many a night I have seen people flocking to town late without a room to be had in town. It almost creates a worrisome circumstance about where to send them.

Book early and Book often.

John,

The Victorian Motel

Thanks so much for your help. Perhaps after our stay at the Victoria Motel in July they might have a weekend room available in August. I really wanted to stay here both times but saw the Victoria had a 3 night minimum.

Marriot, Taj Mahal, or Skyline for first timers in May?

We have a timeshare package for 2 nights that we need to use this month or we lose it. Marriott Courtyard is the package hotel, Wyndham Skyline is the upgrade for about $60, and Trump Taj Mahal is another upgrade for $80. Seems like TTM is the only one right on the boardwalk? I know W.S. is the only one with a full kitchen, but we%26#39;re kidless this trip (and how much does a couple really want to spend time cooking on a mini-vacay anyway?).

We are early 30%26#39;s couple, touristy activity type vacationers who have never been to AC. I love Vegas and beach locations (VA Beach, Bahamas, Jamaica, etc) so I%26#39;m thinking AC will be a good combo. Oh, I should probably include that I%26#39;m pretty ....frugal let%26#39;s say. :) I am comparison shopper/bargain hunter/planner extraordinaire and the same goes for vacation planning. I will want to explore the area and see as much as possible and drag my poor DH along for the ride (he doesn%26#39;t appreciate travel...yet ;)

So...the question is, which hotel do you think would be best for the true AC first timer experience and why? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Oh, and please don%26#39;t jump all over the timeshare piece. We ';play the game'; when they approach us with these packages and politely, then forcefully if need be decline. We already own and would definitely go the resale market route anyway.

Marriot, Taj Mahal, or Skyline for first timers in May?

jenn117,

It really depends on if you want to spend time in a casino on the boardwalk....at least at Taj you can walk down for meals and get a good variety.

You can sign up for a Trump One Card and have $50.00 each to spend in the casino and then another $50 for a return trip.

The rooms may not be as nice as Wyndhan or Marriott but the casino atmosphere is there.

Good Luck!

Marriot, Taj Mahal, or Skyline for first timers in May?

%26gt;%26gt;I%26#39;m pretty ....frugal%26lt;%26lt; I do know that Marriott charges $14 a day parking and it%26#39;s mandatory. when my sis stayed there and tried to debate it, in person and on the phone, as she didn%26#39;t have a car, they suddenly no longer spoke American. marriott.com/hotels/… u may want to consider this when deciding on an upgrade

Also, they charged over $10pp for the continental breakfast, but she said it was worth it

Skyline also charges a parking fee per day. I think it was $15?

Skyline is very nice, but I would pick the Taj Mahal. I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Marriott.

Skyline is very close to Resorts and Taj Mahal. It%26#39;s not technically on the boardwalk, but it%26#39;s only one block away from it.

If you want to walk out of your hotel and onto the boardwalk or beach then Taj is the choice. If you don%26#39;t care about a one long block walk to the boardwalk or beach and you don%26#39;t care about gambling or the choice of several restuarants inside your hotel forget the Taj and go with the Marriott.

this will only make the decision more difficult, BUT skyline tower has an indoor pool skylinetowerresort.com/resort-amenities.php ';Water worshippers will delight in the glass-enclosed indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool which features a retractable roof for warm-weather fun';

BTW, some friends w/timeshare THOUGHT they were staying at Skyline Tower a few yrs back, but actually were booked at %26#39;Fairfield Inn by Marriott Atlantic City North%26#39;. the name has changed now [%26#39;Wyndham Skyline Tower%26#39; used to be called %26#39;Fairfield Skyline Tower%26#39;].

I hope this is for %26#39;Wyndham Skyline Tower%26#39; as this is the info in OP %26amp; do not mean to be misleading in my posts

%26#39;Fairfield Inn by Marriott Atlantic City North%26#39; is in Absecon

If it were a choice for my frugal first-timer friends I would also choose the Taj. It’s on the boardwalk and beach, is connected to two other casinos, plus what’s left of the famous Steel Pier is in front. A short walk “north” takes you to the Garden Pier with a great free small historical museum, and an art center. A short walk inland from there takes you to the 3rd tallest lighthouse in the USA. “South” along the boardwalk will take you through some ticky-tacky, (sometimes with great bargains), of the famous AC boardwalk, and to other casinos; and then to both “high end” shopping at the Pier, and outlet shopping just inland at the Walk. Of course, there%26#39;s ';gaming,'; [or is it gambling?], in all the Boardwalk casinos! If you need more details about any of this, just ask. Many great posters here with loads of information.

Parking at the Taj should be free for guests. Have a great time.

also consider if you use your car and want to park somewhere, you will have to pay for parking.. if you are staying on the boardwalk, you can leave the car at Taj and walk most places... or get a recepit for parking at other casinos..

Thanks for all the replies! That%26#39;s why I love these forums - I can research my brains out before a trip and still not get the same info or as accurate info as if I just asked here. Like the parking thing (I have to get myself into the mindset of paying for parking...to used to Vegas I guess), research said Marriott and Skyline were both $10 and Taj was $5. Sounds like $14, $15, and possibly free at the Taj? It%26#39;s not like I%26#39;ve never paid for parking or anything but $15 a day seems kind steep to me - especially when I%26#39;m already paying to stay at your hotel.

Marriott charges for a continental breakfast? I%26#39;m thinking this is an optional thing though? I knew about the awesome pool at the Skyline, but honestly I think I%26#39;d rather have a nice hot tub. Oh, it%26#39;s definitely the Wyndham Skyline a block from the boardwalk - I confirmed.

About that block, is this a ';questionable'; block or a ';no worries'; kind of block? I realize we are in a city and all, but again to compare to Vegas, there are blocks there I would walk in the middle of the night comfortably and others (like downtown or near the Strat) that I wouldn%26#39;t even think of doing that. Better safe than sorry I figure - that%26#39;s why I was leaning toward the Taj (location, location, location :)

Well, if I have to pay an extra $30+ in parking for the Marriott anyway, I might as well pay the extra to be in the middle of the action and for the convenience that that brings at the Taj. I see they have daily poker tourneys there as well.

This should probably be a separate post but I%26#39;ll throw it out here as well - what%26#39;s with the separate ';cost'; and then ';fees'; for these tourneys(ACpoker site)? Why state it as a $50 cost and then a $15 fee instead of just saying it costs $65 to play? That may be a totally stupid question but I%26#39;ve just never seen it that way before. No rebuys either I see - all no limit? I think most of my gambling dollars will be on tournaments where I (hopefully anyway) can play for a while instead of dropping that same $50 on a couple hands maybe. Are table min. bets similar to Vegas? I know I%26#39;m a low roller and definitely on a budget this trip especially, but $10 min per bet is too much for me right about now. But I do love to play poker :) My poor husband will have to bring his laptop and get some work in after all I guess - speaking of which, is there free Wi-Fi anywhere or everywhere?

Sorry, I know this is getting to be a book length post I have going here but one more question...

we are going to be there Monday May 11th through Wed. May 13th. I know casinos will be open 24/7 to bring in the money, but I%26#39;m guessing some restaurants and attractions will be closed during slower times with the decline in tourism going on everywhere. Should I be prepared for a ghost town and if so does anyone have any suggestions/sure bets for what will be available other than the casinos?

Again thanks so much!

Can you tell me the price of taking the ferry from Exchange Place, NJ, across the river to Manhattan, or uptown?

Cost of ferry ride from NJ to NYC

We used the ferry to go from Exchange Place (I think the pier is called Paulus Hook) to Pier 11 on Monday and it cost $6 for me and $5.50 for my mother who is a senior citizen. I think it was $5.50 to go to the WTC which is straight across.

    Does anyone know this?

I am leaving from Newark to Rome from Terminal C

of wine onboard the plane. I know that I can

purchase the wine in terminal C somewhere but

will they check me right before getting on the

than 3 ounces - should I put it in a water bottle

or coke bottle and carry it by hand? Also, if it

fails can my party buy wine by the glass on Continental and if so, what does it cost?

    Thanks for any advice.

Path from Hyatt, Jersey City, to 33rd street, NYC

    %26lt;%26lt;%26lt; Can I catch the Path at Hyatt Hotel, Jersey City, and go to 33rd %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

Not without a change of trains.

Path from Hyatt, Jersey City, to 33rd street, NYC

We did this journey last Sunday and changed at the WTC. It was really easy even though one of the lines was closed (I presume they do work on the lines on a Sunday as we do in the UK) so it looked as though we were going in the wrong direction initially! You have to walk a short distance from the PATH train to the subway. It was my first time in New York and I found using the PATH and the subways really easy and everybody was very helpful.

You do not have to go to NYC for the PATH to 33rd. You can goto Pavonia or Grove depending on the day or time and change there. Change at Pavonia from 5a. to 11p.m M-f and grove from 11p.m to 5a.m M-f and all day on weekends and Hollidays.

I got it. But I%26#39;m not going. I also got one for Tony Bennett.

We also got the Tony Bennett offer, but we%26#39;ve seen him twice already, so we figured we try something different.

Turn down Tony Bennett AND Fleetwood Mac??? Someone just kill me. . .

NO, No, NO, I%26#39;m not turning down Fleetwood Mac, just Tony Bennett, I%26#39;ve already seen him twice recently and the show doesn%26#39;t change much.

I%26#39;ll be seeing Chuck Mangione at HOB that night.

Bill, ask your host for free tickets. Never mind the presale baloney.

I have a host, but in Las Vegas, I have been spending alot of time down at Harrah%26#39;s in AC and already hit Diamond for next year. ( had a great run a few weeks ago) I was thinking about emailing Harrah%26#39;s and asking about tickets, maybe getting a host. Am I being greedy? Thanks for your help...

Transportation to the Cruise Port in Manhattan

My husband and I will be staying at the Hilton Penn Station and be going to NY City for a cruise. We want to take the train to Penn station NY. What is the line we will get on? Also how do we get to the Cruise Terminal at 711 12 Ave at 55th St. Is it to far to walk? Can we get there by Subway? Or do we have to take a taxi? Thanks

Transportation to the Cruise Port in Manhattan

Just take whichever train that stops at Newark Penn Station bound for NYC Penn Station. Then I would take a taxi from there to the cruise terminal.

Transportation to the Cruise Port in Manhattan

That should be take whichever NJ Transit train. The Amtrak trains are 2x as expensive.

Can we get to the Cruise Port by subway?

Nope. The furthest west that the subways go near the cruise terminal is 8th Avenue. If you look at a subway map you will see what I mean.

Unless your an employee of Amtrak you will not be able to use them to goto NYC from Newark. Here are a couple of links.

    www.njtransit.com

    www.visitnj.org

    www.gonewark.com

I have no idea what you just wrote there.

Amtrak *does* stop at Newark Penn Sation. And they *do* pick up passengers there before continuing on to NYC Penn Station. I just verified this myself on Amtrak.com

However, as I mentioned before there is no reason to take Amtrak since it is so expensive.

    Meal Comps Taxed?

Hello. Last week while I was paying for our meal in AC at the coffee shop in Harrahs, I watched the cashier explain to a guest that since she was paying for her meal with comps from her TR card, that he would remove the tax from her bill and thus save her a few dollars of comp money. I had never noticed this before. I was LFB and charged our meal to my room. It had me wondering, that if I was not LFB but charging to my room to pay my meals with comps at check out, would I be then be paying taxes on all meals charged to my room? I think if that is the case, it is a better idea to pay meals directly with the cashier so that they know the meal is comped and have tax removed at point of sale and avoid using comp dollars for taxes. I know its only a few dollars here and there but it could add up.

I have been going to AC for years and I really never paid attention to taxes on comp meals. Does anyone know if there is a NJ tax law or a Harrah%26#39;s policy or was this just a random mistake on the cashier%26#39;s part?

    Meal Comps Taxed?

I have found over the years that the casinos treat the usage of comps as a reduction of the selling price of the meal, thus reducing the meal price to zero and eliminating the sales tax.

I never charge back to my room for that reason. The tax can amount to maybe $20 per trip, and I love the idea of avoiding a tax.

LFB means nothing unless you have no comps.

    Tony

    Meal Comps Taxed?

In our case, our charges exceeded our comp balance so it was a bonus. Since we never carry large comp balances, LFB is always a plus. We don%26#39;t abuse it and have gotten it often. We are only Platnium and I love this perk! When we are not LFB and have to use our comp balance, I will be certain to request food tax to be removed before they charge my TR card. Thanks very much for your information.

In the past if I used RC%26#39;s to pay for a meal at Cafe Roma (Caesars) tax would be charged.

But if I used one of those $20 coupons that came in my monthly mailer tax would NOT be charged.

MANY years ago when I got a $3 pizza slice at showboat the cashier would press a ';Tax Forgiven'; button on the register and my $3 food voucher from the bus trip would take care of the bill.

I think different casinos treat it differently. We always noticed that Trump Marina subtracted the tax but Harrahs didn%26#39;t. The way they run AC, it could also be each cashier doing it differently! Who knows???

I would have no idea what the law is for that, but I would just do it. Hopefully, if by chance you have a run in with authority, they would have a heart. Sorry about your loss.

    Please accept my condolences.

my condolences for your loss. I know that the ashes, although will still be heavy and cumbersome, will be easier to transport outside the urn. I suggest taking along the paperwork %26amp; tags to identify them ~ just in case

I also do not know the local laws for this. My guess is it would be a littering fine, %26gt;$100. but since WW%26#39;s beach is so wide they have a beach taxi to take u to/from ocean/boardwalk. cozybeach.com/newjerseypics/wildwoodbeachtax…

IMHO, u have a great chance of leaving the boardwalk, getting on the beach and getting out of site of ppl, beach patrols, etc and performing the spreading of the ashes. Especially if u avoid the months of July %26amp; August

Thanks for all the info folks. The plan was to do it at the end of June as there are about 35 of us going there for a family reunion. It was actually a reunion for my Mom as we did not think she had much longer unfortunately she did not make it. the plan was to have my brother and i scatter the ashes off the boradwalk near morleys pier at dusk. I think there may be too many people so maybe it would be best to walk along the beach near the pier and do this.

Sorry to hear of your loss. If you goto the pier with the big metal roller coaster (Surfside Pier) and walk all of the way to the back of it you%26#39;ll find a walkway that brings you over the waterpark area and behind the pier to the beach. Its nothing more than a public entrance to the beach from that pier. That would probably be a good place to scatter the ashes because rarely is anyone back there at night.

Anyone know anything about the Belvedere on South Lafayette?

I%26#39;ll be staying there in Sept for 4 nights for a wedding I%26#39;m in @ Congress Hall. Is it close to CG? Close to the beach? Good restaurants/bars? I%26#39;m an LBI girl and have only been to CM once many years ago. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much!!

Anyone know anything about the Belvedere on South Lafayette?

First off, you%26#39;re going to have an awesome time in Cape May! Weddings at Congress Hall are a pretty impressive and aside from all the details being perfect, the view and atmosphere are fantastic.

With regard to your house, yes, it is very close to the beach and Congress Hall. It%26#39;s on the corner of South Lafayette and Windsor Avenue, behind the Regency Tower Condos. Here are details on the house itself-http://www.capemayrentals.com/thebelvedere.html

If you%26#39;re looking for a fun bar that can get a little rowdy, check out Carney%26#39;s and Cabanas. If you%26#39;re looking for something a little more upscale and laid back, check out Martini Beach or the Brown Room in Congress Hall. All are within walking distance of your house (only a couple blocks).

With regard to restaurants, there are many for you to visit. For more casual places, I recommend Carney%26#39;s (try the crab cake, best in CM), Stumpo%26#39;s (great brick-oven pizza and the most incredible homemade ceasar dressing), Pilot House (everything rocks), Lucky Bones (great seafood dishes, huge burgers and hand-cut fries), Blue Pig at Congress Hall (delicious seafood dishes), Cape Orient (they serve Chinese, Japanese and Thai), Ballyhoos at The Grand Hotel (Try the breakfast buffet and if you%26#39;re there Thurs, you MUST try the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, Henry%26#39;s on the Beach (good food and fabulous view)and Jackson Mountain Cafe (very good crab cakes and some excellent seafood and typical sports-bar type food).

If you%26#39;re looking for something a little more upscale, I highly recommend the Merion Inn, Mad Batter, Washington Inn or The Ebbitt Room at the Virginia Hotel.

Anyone know anything about the Belvedere on South Lafayette?

Wow thank you so much for all the great suggestions!! I agree, I think it will be a great time and from the pictures I%26#39;ve seen of Congress Hall it looks beautiful. Only 6 months exactly till the wedding!

Anytime, I%26#39;m happy to help! Congress Hall is a striking backdrop for any wedding because on one side is a gorgeous, historic hotel and on the other, is the Atlantic Ocean.

    Atlantic City to Boston

Hi. I%26#39;ll be driving from AC to Boston early Friday morning. Would any one know what kind of traffic I might expect?

    Atlantic City to Boston

I would say moderate to heavy traffic. If you are leaving AC around 6am, the Garden State may not be too bad. Once you get to 95 there may be a problem. A lot of people travel to NYC for work. Going through NYC may not be too bad, everyone is usually traveling in the other direction. You will probably hit some traffic in CT.

    Atlantic City to Boston

I would say to take the GSP all the way up into NY and take the thruway up

I agree. If I were driving from AC to Boston on a Friday morning, I would avoid the NYC area and take the GSP to the end. Then east over the Tappan Zee Bridge, north up to 84 to the Mass Pike to Boston. As long as you pass the Newark area before the rush hours you should be OK. Only by the Tappan Zee might you slow down if you hit the rush hour there. Have a safe %26amp; scenic ride.

I would take the GSP the whole way to 287 to the Hutch Merrit Combo to I 91 to I 90.

just be careful because they are doing construction on the tappan zee check out schedules on www.nythruway.org

';Elaine and I and all of us in the Company are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend. One of the most unique human beings and entertainers in the world has been taken from us in an unexpected moment. A profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless. OMG - We saw his very entertaining show in Vegas a few years ago. I thought he was one of the more under-rated performers out there! That%26#39;s so sad.

    LuvBreezes

I%26#39;m in shock. I saw his show a couple of years ago and he seemed to be in such good health and in good shape. It goes to prove you never know when your time will come. He seemed like a very good person as well as a good entertainer.

omg. his was one of the shows we panned on eventually seeing next time we went to vegas, heard he was fantastic. sad

To be honest, I never thought of seeing his show but everytime I go to Vegas, I look for his billboards. When I was at Encore in February, he had his own theatre with his name as big as day. You never know when your time has come. You have to live it to the fullest. I saw on another thread that all shows on the strip are cancelled today. I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised.

We saw him twice...the first time at the Rio a long time ago and then a couple of years later at Mirage. He was very talented and too young to die!

We actually saw him years ago at Caesar%26#39;s in Atlantic city, then a few years later at the Mirage. What a sad time for his family %26amp; friends!

What a great talent! We saw him at the Mirage a couple years ago and my wife actually saw him when he was just starting out at the Stratosphere about 12 years ago. I was always impressed that Danny was insistent that the price of his show ticket would remain very affordable. He surely brought a lot of laughter to his audiences over the years. We have truly lost a Vegas icon.

WOW I saw him not a month ago at Encore.

Do you need to be invited to be rated 7Stars

It%26#39;s my understanding that after earning 100,000 HET tier points, the 7Stars level is not automatic---you need to be invited. Is this true? If yes, how do they evaluate you?

Do you need to be invited to be rated 7Stars

It is automatic, but your host has to do some work on their part. Some hosts are quicker then others. If you have 100,000 tier points and your host hasen%26#39;t contacted you about it, get in touch with him/her, don%26#39;t wait.

    Bill

Do you need to be invited to be rated 7Stars

    My understanding is they check:

    - to see if you have been a security issue at any of their properties

    - verify that you are not in default on any casino credit lines

Other than those two it is pretty much automatic once you reach 100k pts

    Thanks, Bill %26amp; C.

Agree. They do run a check to see if you%26#39;ve been ';trespassed'; at any HET property. Other than that, it%26#39;s routine, but you may have to kick your host%26#39;s butt to get them moving on it.

Bear in mind that you become entitled to the benefits immediately. Including the annual trip, annual gift etc, and you don%26#39;t need to wait until next year. Please don%26#39;t let anyone tell you differently about this. Many trips and gifts have gone unclaimed because the hosts sometimes aren%26#39;t too proactive about telling you what you%26#39;re entitled to.

';If you have 100,000 tier points and your host hasen%26#39;t contacted you about it, get in touch with him/her, don%26#39;t wait.';......

And then request a new host!

As mentioned abouve, you are entitled to all of the benefits of Seven Stars in the year that you reach Seven Stars level unless you reach the level in December and then you do not get the annual trip or celebration dinner for that year but only for the next year.

Thanks for your clear responses. IF I reach 7Stars this year, it probably won%26#39;t be %26#39;til Nov/Dec.

Unless Harrahs has changed its policy, once you achieve 100,000 points you are entitled to the trip etc. You have to take the trip before March of the next year. Harrahs TR cards run from 4/1 to 3/31. If you make 7 Stars by 12/31/09 you have to take your trip by 3/31/10. On 4/1/10 you are entitled to take another trip. Ditto with the annual $500 dinner, and the annual gift. Your online TR account will display a link for ordering your annual gift.

Please don%26#39;t allow yourself to get gypped out of these benefits.

    ACM

AC Mama you are right. My first time 7 star end of last year. I got all the benefits from Jan thru Mar of this year. And I am getting them again for 4/1/09 to 3/31/10. Let me say I had to hussle to get them from 1/1/09 to 3/31/09 because everyone, including my host, had all kinds of conflicting views and initially was not at all cooperative. Honestly, this board was the reason I got them. This board told me everything about 7 star and really encouraged me to pursue the benefits that I was entitled to. It worked........

Anti, I agree with you about this %26amp; the LV board! I have learned so much from the members%26#39; tips, reports, etc.

I%26#39;m curious---does anyone know how many folks are 7Stars members?

Weekend partier bit off AC police officer's finger

    Wow! That%26#39;s messed up.

    that is awful!

    Taj that is expected

Upon returning the verdict the defendant%26#39;s family and friends erupted in the courtroom, which required the Sheriff%26#39;s Officers and an ambulance for a person in distress.

He was a good man. Never caused no trouble. Wouldn%26#39;t hurt a fly.

    Lock them all up.

I heard the weirdest part is other weekend wild ones at the Casbah never missed a beat. They thought it was part of the entertainment? I think the casinos should have some good daily music shows and less weekend rip-off stuff for the worst kind of drunks (or stoners?).

    Comp Limo

I realize this is a AC forum, but this a lot of gambling talk happens here I though someone might be able to help. (plus I doubled posted)

I am coming back for a second stay at MB in two weeks. I have stay comped before but this time they are picking me up from the airport as well. My question is how does it work, will the driver meet me in baggage claim, will I get one of those signs :), how much do I have to tip him, will I have the limo for my use while I am there, can I have the driver take me to a store, or on a trip down the strip before going to the hotel, etc etc.

    Comp Limo

The driver will meet you at baggage claim, with a sign that has your name on it.

We tipped 20.00 each way. You could probably tip 15.00 if you want. They will stop at a store on the way if you ask them. I don%26#39;t think you have the use of the Limo for your stay, unless MB works differently than Harrahs. Have a great time!

  • Bally's or Showboat?

    Hi, all...

I am staying in AC in June, and can get Bally%26#39;s, Showboat or Harrah%26#39;s on a comp and Caesars at a nominal fee. I%26#39;m being cheap and ruling out Caesars off the bat (would rather play with my money). I%26#39;ve also ruled out Harrah%26#39;s as I%26#39;d like to be on the boardwalk instead of the Marina. I have never stayed at either hotel. I currently have Showboat booked, but have been contemplating switching to Bally%26#39;s because of the more central location. Do you have any advice for me? I am looking for opinions and preferences. Thanks!

    Bally's or Showboat?

In my opinion, you can%26#39;t go wrong with either Bally%26#39;s or Showboat... I just stayed at Showboat (Orleans Tower) for the first time in many years and I liked my room and was surprised at how nice it was...It seems that lots of people that stay at Bally%26#39;s get Claridge Tower.. I have stayed there many times and sometimes you get a really nice room-sometimes the room is just okay.

Location - again both on the boardwalk as long as the weather is nice you can walk from either place..Bally%26#39;s will be closer to The Pier but really its a 10-15 minute walk on the boardwalk from Showboat ... that might be a problem if its raining..

Showboat, Taj, Resorts are connected... Bally%26#39;s Trump Plaza, Ceasars are connected.

    Bally's or Showboat?

Nancy has given good advice. The only thing I%26#39;d add is that if an ocean view is important to you, you MIGHT (!!!) have better luck at Bally%26#39;s. Revel has cancelled a lot of nice views from Showboat%26#39;s windows.

Bally%26#39;s is my ';home'; casino, and one thing I really like about it now that warmer weather has arrived is the pool/spa/rooftop sunning area. The spa charges 10 comp dollars per ROOM for the privilege, and I think it%26#39;s worth every penny.

Wherever you land, just remember you are getting a ';free'; room on the Boardwalk. Roll down to Cape May and see what it would cost you, LOL

Have fun and don%26#39;t obsess too much about the room.

I agree with the previous posters. Both are decent. Heck, I am usually just happy to be there. I love AC. We are going in June as well and staying at Showboat this time. I love the festive feel of the place. Have a great trip!!!

Thanks for all of the good advice. I%26#39;m a native Jerseyan, but I haven%26#39;t been down to AC in a long time. I wasn%26#39;t sure what the lay of the land is these days. I appreciate all of the help. One more thing, are the restaurants better or worse in one property or the other. We%26#39;re in good health and don%26#39;t mind walking at all, but it%26#39;s always nice to have a good restaurant in your hotel. Thanks again.

Bally%26#39;s Dennis Rooms are really nice.

*****Echo writes: ';Thanks for all of the good advice. I%26#39;m a native Jerseyan, but I haven%26#39;t been down to AC in a long time';*****

Depending on how long, you might be in for some surprises on the skyline. Bortgata has doubled in size as has Harrrah%26#39;s -- both have very impressive additions-- in the past few years.

As for food, at Bally%26#39;s on the 6th floor, there are a couple ';new'; restaurants including a 24-hour place called 6ix which is absolutely adequate for breakfast.

    Hope you have a great time visiting ';home.';

I bet a lot of people will be saying no thanks to entertainers. How many people can swing money for tickets anymore? Look at the problems Yankee stadium is having. Yes they are the most expensive seats but concerts are no bargins.

I noticed that . normally the brigatine entrance at harrahs has 3 signs showing upcoming shows. all they had was hulk hogans daughters bday party, and 2 posters advertising their ';everyone has a part'; theme. havent noticed anythinbg in the offers about shows at ceasars either.

    help me chose a rental!

I am traveling with 4 adults and 5 kids. looking for something close to the beach and the boardwalk. My 2 otions are on Corinthian Ave, few houses from the beach. Or Wesley ave 1200s block - 7 blocks from the boardwalk, but right on the beach. Which is the better beach, quieter, better location? Looking for a nice uncrowded beach for toddlers to play. Thanks for your help.

    help me chose a rental!

I%26#39;m a little confused by your post. #1, where on Corinthian Ave? #2, you say ';Wesley ave 1200s block - 7 blocks from the boardwalk, but right on the beach';. The 1200 block of Wesley would neither be 7 blocks from the boardwalk nor right on the beach. Sorry, but your post doesn%26#39;t really make a lot of sense! Perhaps if you clarify some input could be given. Thanks

    help me chose a rental!

My mistake. the first is 2918 Wesley Avenue. The second is 111 Corinthian Ave.

The Corinthian address is great: very close to the beach and only about a 5 block walk from the start of the rides and stores on the boardwalk. So, you would be walking on the boardwalk the whole way which is very lovely. You could also ride bikes in the morning, take out a surrey, get donuts, its all right there for you. The beach there is quiet too. The only thing I don%26#39;t know is how wide the beach is at that location which would impact the crowding. I%26#39;m sure Frank who is an expert on the North End will chime in on that today or tomorrow. There is also a bathroom right around first street on the boardwalk which is very convenient. 29th and Wesley is very nice but the beach is super wide. This means you will be carrying your stuff far. So, evaluate that. You will have plenty of open space at this location. It will be a far walk to the rides/stores which start around 14th. You could ride bikes there but I wouldn%26#39;t want to stroll there at night. I do find the North End a little congested whereas the Wesley location is much more open (in terms of the houses, sidewalks, etc...). The houses and side walks run parallel to the beach here which is why there is more beachfront. I prefer this but I think 29th is too far. I think ideal on Wesley is 15th-20th.

In sum, given the two choices presented, I would go with Corinthian. You will have great beach access, a quiet atmosphere and a short walk to the boardwalk shops. Please post additional questions if you have them. I have stayed in both locations (as well as many others as we rent 4 weeks a year and rarely in the same place twice).

From what I see on Mapquest, 111 Corinthian looks like it%26#39;s near the corner of St Charles and that is 2 blocks north of our street, Pennlyn Place. The North End beaches are not as wide as in the southern part of the island but we did just have a beach replenishment project in the area last year around Memorial Day so there is enough sand. At St Charles and the Boardwalk is Browns which is a great place for breakfast (including fresh donuts) and lunch. From Pennlyn it%26#39;s about a 5-7 minute walk to Gillians Wonderland so yes, you can walk to the boardwalk and not worry about driving and parking. If those 5 kids are old enough it also means that they can walk down for a game of late afternoon mini-golf or even some early evening rides. Families with young teens find lots of freedom staying in this area as the kids can go to the boardwalk alone. The beach is literally around the corner (and with a lifeguard) so going to and from will be an easy task. For grocery shopping there is the Superfresh on 8th and West and it%26#39;s not that far a trip across the Longport Bridge to Somers Point and even more shopping.

We find the North End to be a lot less trafficked than some of the other areas of the island. I think you%26#39;ll find the area great for a nice family vacation! I know nothing about the properties you are looking at but we are big North End fans.

I%26#39;m with Frank ... the North End would be my pick ... kids have the freedon to go up on the boards ... go to the Rec area between 5th and 6th .. you name it ... rather then be driven from 29th street .... go with Corinthian ya can%26#39;t go wrong !!

BOGO free buffets for signing up for Harrah's card?

I was wondering if the coupon book you get for signing for players card at Harrah%26#39;s has a BOGO free at their buffet (also how much would the buffet be?) Any other food coupons in that book? I%26#39;m looking to find some food deals to make the most of the trip!!

Also, do you get anything for signing up for Borgata%26#39;s card? Any coupon booklet with food coupons? I was thinking about stopping there too. I greatly appreciate any help!

BOGO free buffets for signing up for Harrah's card?

If i remember right the buffett at harrahs runs about 27-29 bucks for dinner. sadly i have no idea what if anything they are giving out at sign up. we often get bogo or 2 free buffetts from ceasars but seldom get to use them when we are there in town. the harrahs gift shop gives you a 10% discount for paying with cash using your gold card,15% plat....20% gold. they didnt have the coupon book when i 1st signed up(it may have been in vegas when i got my 1st het card) anyway try going to harrahs web page there is a contact us spot and ask them.,

BOGO free buffets for signing up for Harrah's card?

I don%26#39;t know that they offer much of anything for signing up for a card now, but I would check out http://www.restaurant.com, as they offer $25 gift certificates for $10, less if you sign up for coupon codes (I wait til they%26#39;re 80% off,so a $25 certificate for $2). These are good for several places in AC, such as GameOn, Trinity Pub and Sonsie in the Pier Shops restaurant area, as well as 5 other places in the Atlantic City area. Any way to save a few dollars - but be sure and read the terms, as a minimum purchase is required (usually $35) and they include an 18% tip.

Just an idea to save money on eating out.

I was considering using Restaurant.com, but my DW is vegetarian, and I%26#39;m afraid many of these places don%26#39;t have a great selection of vegetarian options. I%26#39;ll have to look more closely at the menu though, but thanks for the suggestion!

They were giving out coupon booklets and T shirts for new sign ups at Showboat this past weekend, I would think they would be doing the same at all properties, but I don%26#39;t know what coupons are in the booklets, just that they looked similar to the Diamond and Platinum booklets from a few weeks ago. YOu could probably email and ask them what is in the new member booklet.

  • Video Roulette at Harrah's? TR Shuttle problems?

Was it a mirage or did I see some 25 and 50 cent video roulette games at a (very crowded) kiosk somewhere in Harrah%26#39;s? I saw them on our way out, so I didn%26#39;t have time to wait and investigate. Could anyone explain how they work? The only ones I ever played were 5 dollar ones at Delaware Park.

Hey, whazzup with the Total Rewards Shuttle? Sunday evening at Showboat we waited 45 minutes and the one that came was the wrong route, but we were so cold, hungry and desperate we took it. Heard others on the shuttle buzzing that there have been over one hour waits. Took the jitney back, timeliness overcame our fear for our lives and thriftiness!

Video Roulette at Harrah's? TR Shuttle problems?

Yeah, Harrahs has video roulette. It%26#39;s really prevalent in Vegas and I don%26#39;t know why it%26#39;s not in more AC casinos. On the plus side it%26#39;s single-zero, on the other side it doesn%26#39;t use en prison rules (so you don%26#39;t get half your even-money bets back on a zero).

If you prefer playing numbers it%26#39;s a better choice than the tables. If you prefer playing red/black, I believe the machine game wins by a slight margin. If you play the thirds (first third, second third, first column, etc), you%26#39;ll want to stick with the machines too.

From what I hear they%26#39;re always packed. There was a post concerning getting Diamond In A Day about a month ago here by playing red and black on the machine, but it pays RCs at video poker level ($10 = 1 point), so DIAD would cost you $1,080.00 or so, with no chance of winning using that strategy at all.

Video Roulette at Harrah's? TR Shuttle problems?

i saw it all over in vegas, but didnt play,I played the tables, whats odd is in vegas the kiosk for rapid roulette was always empty, didnt notice them in AC so not if its just a new novelty in ac or what? great tip on rewards credits, I was wondering if they used slot formula or vp. I usually play 3rd line ,but enjoy the tables but ill see what happens next month wwhen im there.

I WAITED 45 MINUTES MYSELF SATURDAY! only the one route that went from the boat to harrahs came...i needed to get to caesars - i just cabbed it over.

Is the video roulette you are referring to a single unit, like a slot machine? I was on a cruise recently and they had a version of roulette that was a big round structure with about 10-12 seats around it, and in the middle was the wheel (it was an actual wheel, not digital). Each of the seats had it%26#39;s own screen where you could move digital chips around to bet and also watch the outcome. There were no dealers involved, and the game just kept going even when nobody was playing. It was pretty cool, I%26#39;ve never seen it anywhere else, and people were making a killing off this game. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this and knows where (besides the NCL Star) it can be found.

    Cheers,

    LuvBreezes

ive never seen it as a stand alone machine like a slot?,the ones ive seen were as luv breeze describes, only they did have 2 sort of dealers, assising players and running the game,at least thats what they have in vegas.

    LuvBreezes,

I saw the version you are talking in a casino in St. Martin last summer. Loved playing it. Would love to see it sometime in AC or Vegas.

The one with the REAL ROULETTE WHEEL in the middle is RAPID ROULETTE- if you bet on individual computer screens. We asked why it wasn%26#39;t in AC, and they said it was in for approval, whatever that means. We love that game- it is all over Las Vegas, but the very first one was at Harrahs Las Vegas.

About the shuttles, VERY LONG WAITS!! And VERY LONG LINES WAITING !! They only have 3 buses making the rounds and they are really being used in the last few weeks, we were there twice and tried to use them, couldn%26#39;t casino hop in a short length of time that%26#39;s for sure!! I guess more people started using them and now the lines are back, even without gold members. I wonder what they will do now!!

Was the video roulette at Harrahs really lower than $1.00????? If so I wish I knew that I would%26#39;ve definitely played. They have nickel, dime, quarter machines in Las Vegas, but you have to watch- at the Stratosphere they gave NO PLAYING CREDIT for playing the machines. They are the machines they have in PA casinos and they call them ';table games'; along with the video blackjack tables.

    Patty from PA

    I thought Rapid Roulette was the one with the dealers? The one I%26#39;m describing has no live people whatsoever; just a computer-generated voice that says ';no more bets';, and ';the winning number is...';

You put your money in a feeder just like a slot machine, and cash out your ticket when you want to leave. There are a few slot-type roulette games at the Hilton, two are for quarters and two are dollars. The wheel is a video and it%26#39;s on the upper half of the screen; so you sit in front of it and look up to see the action.

    LuvB

Vashtara,Shuttles are a Joke,Have been ever since they started them.Have to laugh everytime I go by and see the LOOOOOOOONG lines.

Whoops :-D missed that little part, it sounds like automated rapid roulette though :-) How does the ball spin? does something spit it out to spin it? About the shuttles we have had good luck with them, they are nice if you are drinking and don%26#39;t want to have to drive, but they are just too busy now. They will have to do something to fix it because I am sure they are getting tons of complaints!

Our Trip to Harrahs and The Harbor Diner

So we finally made it back to AC. Haven%26#39;t been since last July. We lost our diamond status but are still platium. We arrived around 1pm and was given a Marina Tower room. It was just ok. We usually stay in the Bayview. We then went to the slot tourney. Boy I did really bad. I think I had the lowest number...3800.

So then off to the slots. We mainly played nickels and pennies. We were winning. We won alot on the Zeus extra spin.. neat machine. Lots of fun! Then we played a few more and we were winning nice. We went into the Diamond Cove and played the $1 blazing sevens. We hit the 7%26#39;s twice (mix) and we cashed out a $400 ticket. So now we are really ahead. I thought we should leave now! Well we didn%26#39;t....

We went to The Bogarta and played my slot dollars and some of my dollars. We played awhile but lost. We then went back to Harrahs and had dinner. Then we played some more and we started loosing. I knew we should have left! HaHa!

We had a good time and a much needed getaway. We decided to get away and go some where outside the casino for breakfast, we landed in Egg Harbor. We had breakfast at the Harbor Diner. It was so good. You all should try it. It was funny though the waitress was talking all gambling to all the tables. I believe they were regulers.

Anyway, had a nice time and looking forward to going on Memorial Day weekend.

Our Trip to Harrahs and The Harbor Diner

Sounds like you still had a good time. I can%26#39;t tell you how many times I%26#39;ve said I should leave now. The casinos know that most of the time we don%26#39;t. Glad you found a good place outside of AC for breakfast but that was quite a bit outside. Is that on your way home or did you just go for a drive and pulled in there?

Our Trip to Harrahs and The Harbor Diner

    Hi Jerry,

No it wasn%26#39;t on our way home. We actually were on the parkway and put in breakfast food to the gps and it turned us around to that area. Kinda weird. But it was good.

It really would be crazy to drive 4 hours and leave after 4 hours...but we would have had more money. I like to win at the end of the trip. We did have a nice time though, thanks.

A little bit closer is the Gilchrist Offshore from the same family that had the Gilchrist in Atlantic City which was a big local favorite, it is located at 734 W. White Horse Pike, in the Cologne section of Galloway Twp

Sounds like you had a fun trip! Yes, many times I think its time to leave after a hit but just keep staying and playing... it would be best to hit on your way out the door!!

Its fun to try some place out of the way for a meal sometimes...glad it was good.

Thanks for TR teddybear.Always Nice to get away!!!

outside of the fact that its very close to the coffee shop im not a big fan of the marina tower either, not that ive had anything better than that or the harbor tower, personally i like harbor over marina .but if you have stayed in bayview i guess there must be some diffrences for sure. glad you had fun though

I have to go to a shower in Point Pleasant and was thinking about staying over the night before so I can go to Jenks. Are there any nice accomodations in the area? I really don%26#39;t want a motel. I want a nice, clean hotel. Thanks in advance.

    NICE hotel in Point Pleasant?

Check out the White Sands spa resort. It%26#39;s probably the nicest hotel in the immediate area. They may not give you a one-night rez on a summer weekend.

I wanted to know how many tickets each ride are, on average. Is the pier woth it. I am looking for something to do in the evening with children.

    Steel Pier

I don%26#39;t know the cost per ride but the rides are limited on the steel pier. How old are your children? Ocean City, NJ boardwalk and Storybook Land would be better for small children and Wildwood, NJ boardwalk would be better for older children. Question about the Virginia Hotel

Can anyone who%26#39;s been down to CM tell me if the negative reviews about ants or bugs on the premises are true? I would really like to stay there but I can%26#39;t live with being in a buggy room!

Any other suggestions for a couple celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary, kids staying at home with Grandma?

    Joan

    Question about the Virginia Hotel

Speaking from experience,I would tell you that like any 100+ year old building anyway, not just in Cape May, ants can be troublesome from time to time. That being said, my wife and I recently stayed their for a similar weekend get away as we do every year. We found it to be clean, quiet and relaxing as always. During our stay I found the room to be every bit as clean as our own house. In regard to the comment on breakfast, the breakfast is a contenential breakfast. In my opion it is great if your a person who enjoys something on the lighter side to start your day. If you are looking for something more substantial the Blue Pig Tavern is at Congress Hall only a block away, along with Georges and Uncle Bil%26#39;s pancake house. We ate dinner in the Ebbitt Room as well and was glad to see that it%26#39;s reputation is well deserved. In all, I would say that this one persons experience is certainly not indictive of the type of experiences we have had during our visits. I would also recomend the ';Rythem of the Sea'; as an alternative. They are are a little removed from the center of town but it is a close second behind the Virginia Hotel.

    Question about the Virginia Hotel

Virginia Hotel is very nice and extremely well-kept. Some people have standards that are virtually impossible to meet or worse, a beef with the managment that could cause them to write a less-than-accurate account of their trip. I%26#39;m not saying either of those was the case, because I don%26#39;t know the people individually, but I would tell you that thousands of people flock to the Virginia each year and mand of them are repeat customers.

If you%26#39;re looking for a B%26amp;B, I%26#39;d recommend the Queen Victoria, John F. Craig or Bedford. Each will provide you with top-notch service and an extremely-clean and well-kept set of accomodations. Plus, the Cape May B%26amp;B experience can%26#39;t be beat!

And if you do choose to stay at the Virginia, just walk next door to the Mad Batter. It%26#39;s consistently rated as one of the best breakfasts in Cape May.

    Ben Miller

Speaking as a Cape May homeowner, we have had a peculiar problem in the past few years:

For some reason, there has been an infestation of what should be outdoor ants coming indoors. They are teensy tiny, and they don%26#39;t sting or do anything particularly nasty, but there are lots of them, and, especially when it gets humid, they are all over the place.

We have exterminators come by every so often, but of course we really don%26#39;t know if they kill the ants or feed them.

Frankly, I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;re enough of a problem to be a deciding factor in where anybody goes or stays.

    I completely agree with George.

    Ben Miller

    Thanks for everyone%26#39;s input.

We read the wonderful reviews for the Queen Victoria and decided to stay there instead. I think the availability of the pantry at night is what cinched it for us %26lt;grin%26gt;. Seriously, it seems like the owners really take care of the guests there.

I%26#39;m just a little worried about finding onstreet parking. How hard is it going to be during a midweek the second week of June?

My wife and I had trouble finding on-street parking in March! Found a spot a few blocks away......

Just because Columbia and Hughes Streets have free - non metered parking does not mean one can find a parking space - sometimes you have to drive around for an hour or so to find parking

Some Inns provide free parking permits for their guests - so they can drop off their luggage at their B %26amp; B and drive right to the parking lot and get on with enjoying their time in Cape May rather than driving around looking for parking for hours

Doesn%26#39;t the Queen Victoria provide free parking permits? I would think at the rate of their rooms that it would be included

What are ';free parking permits'; ? And how does someone get one and where? Thanks.

There are many other streets around the Queen Victoria besides Columbia and Hughes that offer free parking. The Queen Victoria does not give guests parking passes, probably because of the abundance of nearby free parking. They do offer 3 special accomodations that include on-site parking (the two rooms in %26#39;The Queen%26#39;s Cottage%26#39; and %26#39;The Crown Jewel%26#39; suite), but they%26#39;re a bit more in price for that and the many other extra amenities they include.

I honestly don%26#39;t expect you%26#39;ll have a problem finding parking. I have stayed at the Queen Victoria plenty of times and never had an issue. Incidentally, the prices may be a little higher as the previous commenter noted, but they also offer more amenities than anyone else in town.

Some of the extra%26#39;s include a chocolate coin on your pillow during the evening turndown service, TWO outdoor showers that are enclosed and offer both hot and cold water, a fleet of new bikes for the guests to use, free Queen Victoria beach chairs to use at your leisure, 24-hour pantry, homemade snacks available 24 hours a day, a HUGE breakfast buffet served simultaneously in three seperate buildings at once (you choose the breakfast accomodations you like),an afternoon tea time that includes 3-4 different gourmet choices, many porches (the inn is made up of four buildings) and even a sundeck with views in all directions, etc.

There are many awesome places in town with each having their own theme and special experience. To me, the Queen Victoria experience is a casual luxury in a gorgeous old home. The high-end amenities and spot-on appearance builds that feeling.

Now, if you were looking for a more relaxed inn that was just as gorgeous, but where you felt like you were a part of the innkeeper%26#39;s family (in a good way), I%26#39;d send you over to the Bedford. Looking for a whimsical, fun experience in a beautifully maintained house, then the John F. Craig is for you. Then there%26#39;s a place like the John Wesley inn that offers different experiences with both B%26amp;B rooms and private apartments. The Wesley house blends the Victorian parlor and dining room with a modern sundeck upstairs.

The point is, Cape May has something for everyone and before anybody scoffs at a particuliar inn%26#39;s price, look at what it includes. Visit their profile on Tripadvisor and see what others who have stayed there thought of the property.

    Ben Miller

like the Craig House, Bedford, John Wesley and so many more,

  • Atlantic City Red?

I got to thinking more about this as I was driving into AC last Saturday night.

Is there a law that all AC casino signs on the boardwalk have to use the exact same shade of red for their sign?

I noticed Borgata, Harrahs and the Marina use whatever colors they want.

Will the new Revell also have to use ';Atlantic City'; red for their sign?

It seems like the law must law still be in effect or one of the casinos would have changed theirs long ago to stand out in the skyline.

    Atlantic City Red?

so Sands was demolished b/c their sign was orange %26amp; it was breaking this law?

  • Went down for a quick trip yesterday...

My friend%26#39;s daughter was in the cheerleading competition at the Convention Center. So her and I headed down around 9am. Get to the CC parking and it%26#39;s full--but they are still having people drive in/through with an occassional ';Lot is full'; when we could clearly see that there were a ton of spots. So we drove to Caesars and parked there--we wanted to gamble some anyway, so it worked. Walked up to the CC and saw her daughter perform, then back in the rain to Caesars.

Had lunch at Game On--it sucked! Couldn%26#39;t use my comp slip since I printed out the incorrect one that didn%26#39;t say ';Pier Shops.'; My fault, but I was hot! But anyway the food sucked for the price--regardless if it would have been comped or not. Got a burger and a quarter size container of coleslaw--no lettuce, tom, pickle, nothing. Same with my friend. Won%26#39;t go back--too overpriced and it seemed like all the staff was more worried what they looked like than serving their customers.

We hit Caesars some more--it was packed! Couldn%26#39;t get near the WOZ machines. We headed over to Bally%26#39;s--WHAT A DUMP AND I MEAN DUMP!!! It%26#39;s like a dungeon there--not one employee looked happy, it stunk, was dark, and alot of bums were sleeping at the machines. We got out of there and back to Caesars.

I do like Caesars alot more now--it%26#39;s laid out good, good selection of penny machines--that%26#39;s all my friend plays, and everyone was pleasant and smiling.

Didn%26#39;t have any big wins--broke even. So we headed home and we were happy to get our fix.

Hopefully Mr Jerze and I will head back one of these weekends soon.

    Thanks!

    Sandy

A day at the casino is better than a rainy day in Delaware.

I do agree with you on the conditions of Ballys.

We are heading to AC tomorrow for a few days. Will have to try the WOZ again as the last visit I couldn%26#39;t get a bonus round. Hope to find a few more of the Black Knight slots.

Went down for a quick trip yesterday...

sorry you didnt have any luck with the gambling or the food. but the good news is you got in your fix and was able to do it while there for another reason.

I know what you mean about Game On. The times I have there, the servers worked hard at giving minimal service.

blackjack, played three Black Knights at Borgata yesterday,Did Good on them!!!

i read in pressplus where laura bush gave a speech at ballys.

    Guess Who%26#39;s back???

yes, lauras back, but for a good cause, helping shore memorial hospital charity.

sorry to hear you didn%26#39;t enjoy Game On... anytime I have been there I liked it...service, drinks and food were good.. I haven%26#39;t been there since last summer so I am guessing the service has gone downhill..

Harrah's 5 full pay VP machines gone.

i know someone mentioned this in an earlier post but I saw it this weekend. Machines are gone, replaces with 7/5. Sad.

Harrah's 5 full pay VP machines gone.

I heard there are (3) 9/6 in a circle right by where the row of (5) were. Any truth to this? Was supposed to be there now, but the snow kept me away.

Harrah's 5 full pay VP machines gone.

that%26#39;s terrible, almost as bad as 6/5 joker poker.are they cutting back at the tables or just video poker.

Don%26#39;t know if they%26#39;re there or not. There are 9/6 payouts on DDB but it%26#39;s even money for two pair.

    that%26#39;s bad,bob dancer says don%26#39;t play them,if that low.

9/6 DDB has a return of 98.98%. Not that bad, just a more volatile game than 9/6 JoB.

yeah that%26#39;s right, the low pay on 2 pair,is for the high pay on bonus quads.

There are 3 9/6 JOB in quarters/half/dollar where they were before (9 months ago or so)

There are also still the 4 ($1/2/5) in Diamond cove

and the 2 ($5/10/25) in Diamond cove

Why they keep moving the quarter ones I surely don%26#39;t know.

They keep moving them, but several of them disappear in the process!

they might move them so people don%26#39;t suspect the pay schedule changes.also if they%26#39;re coming due to hit the royal flush, etc. they might replace them.

Please note, the DDB is not 9/6 on the downgraded ones, it%26#39;s 7/5. (about a 95% game with bad variance too, avoid!) The DB on these newly downgraded machines is 9/6/4, but that%26#39;s not really good at all, about 96.3% If you enjoy DB, it%26#39;s full pay at 10/7/5.

If you are a bit newer to VP, please don%26#39;t assume 9/6 is a good paytable for all games. It%26#39;s considered very good for Jacks or Better, and decent for DDB, but it%26#39;s actually pretty bad for some other games.

There is still 9/6 DDB at Harrahs in the Diamond Cove.

    EWR parking

What is the best deal for a long term parking at Newark Aiport?

    EWR parking

I%26#39;ve used the off airport parking such as ABC, AVistar, Airpark. I went on yahoo and typed in Newark Airport parking and you should see a sight that shows you all the possibilities with prices. I have had no problems using these off airport parking lots. They tend to be cheaper than the on airport parking.

    EWR parking

If you do end up parking on the airport premise, they have two economy lots with shuttle service to the main terminals for $12/day.

Thanks for the posts. Sky-park is the best deal. 8$/day if you give them a business card, 9$/day for AAA members. Taxes already included.

you have to worry about security though. I found that out w/ EZ WAy parking. They stole my radar detector that was hidden under the front seat and the suction cup attachment on the windshield. When asked about it, they just keep telling me to call the next guy.

EZ-Way and Vista are both terrible, do not park there.

Have to disagree with the last post. After trying several others, we always park at the Vista lot on Frontage Road. We have never had a problem. Fast drop off and pick up. Car always in perfect condition.

DO NOT USE E-Z WAY PARKING VALET SERVICE. I left my car on December 18, 2008 and pick up was on December 24, 2008. Garmin Nuvi GPS was stolen from my car including charger. No broken windows, they just used my keys that I left on valet parking. I was told that we are NOT responsible for anything valuable left in the car. There are many other self service parking lots in Newark airport to use. Also, remove anything valuable from your vehicle before your lock it just to play safe. It only takes few minutes.

I have used Mr. Bee%26#39;s (I think its called Avistar now,)a couple of times with good results, no issues.

We used EZ WAy parking in Jan 09. We found them to be the cheapest and they were fine. We did NOT leave any valuables in our car ( but I would not leave any valusbles in my car in any of the long term lots) They brought us promptly to the airport and picked us up within a reasonable amount of time. Our car was waiting for us and it took under 5 minutes to pay the bill. I don%26#39;t know if they made a mistake, but we were slightly over four 24-hour days, but they only charged us for four days. We used our old car when we parked.

We also use EZ (next to Crowne Plaza) and haven%26#39;t had a problem - but then again, we do not leave anything valuable in the car.

When we returned from our last trip, it had been snowing here. We called from the airport when we had our baggage in hand, they met us within 5 - 10 minutes with their van. When we arrived at their lot to pick up our car, the snow and ice were cleaned off and the car was warmed up - less than 5 minutes to check out and we were on our way home.

  • Weather ?

Hi. I%26#39;ve been looking at the weather for next week in Atlantic City on weather.com and wunderground. It shows rain all week from Sunday to Friday which is when I%26#39;ll be there. How acurate are those websites compared to the weather forecast you%26#39;ve been getting on your local news station. TIA

    Weather ?

Never accurate. It is suppose to warm up over the weekend and be nice next week. Bring a lite jacket and you will be fine. You may be able to sit on the beach a day or 2, but not go swimming. The water takes along time to warm up here. Have fun. Don%26#39;t worry.

    Trump Taj: beds?

A friend has 2 comp rooms at the Taj in a couple of weeks. She requested the older rooms as we%26#39;ve never been to AC (though we love Vegas); she said they are in the thick of the action. She thought the distance to the Tower was too far to get a real AC feel. But... how comfortable are those beds? The website touts the comfy mattress in the new Tower - will we regret not staying there instead?

Our Vegas hotels have included Mirage, MGM, and MGM Signature, if that helps. We love the W and Kimpton hotels, as well.

    Trump Taj: beds?

The beds are fine in the older tower and it really is less of a walk to the casino

    Trump Taj: beds?

We%26#39;ve had surprisingly nice rooms and beds in the older Taj tower. Yes, the new tower has a terrible design, the only guest entrance is a drag to get to the casino, and a very long walk to the boardwalk. Don%26#39;t worry and have a fun trip.

I%26#39;ve stayed in both towers. I love the feel of the new towers but since we are a group of 3 that go up to the rooms at different times during the night we prefer the older towers, we feel safer. I agree with the above poster, the Taj casino floor is so big and then you add that the the added distance to Chairman Tower rooms, you do have quite a treck to the boardwalk.

The rooms in the older tower are very nice, the beds are comfortable and the room is updated and clean. Try to ask for a higher floor, we usually stay on the 40th and above. There are pictures posted on the review section of Trip Advisor, under travelers photos and videos.

Thanks, everyone! We certainly didn%26#39;t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but we just got back from a weekend where neither of us slept much due to the beds.

Our friend has stayed in both the older and newer rooms. Her biggest selling point on the new rooms was the shower. While that would be nice, it does sound like the older rooms are the best bet. I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll all be going up from the casino at different times.

I%26#39;m looking forward to a lot of the perks/comps I read about, but have a few questions.....1. On the annual trip, do I get to choose where to go and when to go?.........2. Are the spa credits of $100.00 monthly or quarterly?........3. Are you comfortable walking in front of people in long lines? I%26#39;m not but I think I%26#39;ll get over it.....4. How many people can I bring into the 7 star club and the diamond club, and can my companion ( spouse) bring people in?......I%26#39;ll probably never make 7 star again, so I want to take as much advantage of the perks as I can.....

    First, congratulations.

You pick the destination and when to go on your annual trip. Your host at your home casino can make all the arrangements for you. The spa credit is $100 quarterly and it can be used by someone you designate, if you don%26#39;t use it yourself, as long as you%26#39;re in town playing. My daughter has used mine several times as long as I was in AC. Don%26#39;t forget there is also a quarterly comp golf at Harrahs Country Club. Again, since I don%26#39;t golf, it has been transferred to my son and his guest as long as I%26#39;m in AC that day. I always thought it was 2 guests to the Diamond Clubs, but recently at Ballys, I was told a 7 Star can bring in 4. As far as the 7 Stars lounge at Harrahs AC, it%26#39;s basically as many people as come in the door with you since they don%26#39;t check once inside. I%26#39;ve had as many as 4 at a time. If your spouse is your 7 Stars companion, and has the card, he/she can use the lounges on their own but is not entitled to bring in any guests unless he/she is Diamond.

    Enjoy.

Thank you for your quick reply. Appreciate all your answers. Can%26#39;t wait to go on the trip next year ....VEGAS HERE I COME !!

You said ';Can%26#39;t wait to take my trip to Vegas next year';. Just remember if you just made 7 Stars now, you are entitled to a trip between now and March 31st 2009 and then another one between April 1, 2009 and March 31st, 2010 (which is Harrah%26#39;s next benefit year). If you play it right, you could squeeze two trips in.

I second everything that%26#39;s been said. You also get a free annual gift. There is a web site called seven stars insider that has helpful information. Don%26#39;t have it handy but if you Google it, it should come up.

You also have an annual Day at the Races at Harrahs Chester and an annual dinner with a $500 food credit you can use at any HET casino. Remember to use this in addition to your annual trip before 4/1/09 - then you%26#39;ll get another one.

Best of luck. I know you will enjoy the percs!

Congratulations Anti. You are going to love being a 7 star. Everyone here seemed to have covered all the perks except the one where if you have a good host you%26#39;ll usually get a suite, and a food platter when you check in. The annual trip includes a limo ride to and from the airport. Have fun:)

    ';If your spouse is your 7 Stars companion, and has the card, he/she can use the lounges on their own but is not entitled to bring in any guests unless he/she is Diamond.';

In my experience, the people at the door typically won%26#39;t question if you have a companion card and are bringing someone else in. Only had that happen one time, and it was at Showboat%26#39;s Diamond lounge.

Ny husband brought 3 people in with the companion card while I was gambling away all our money:). No one checked what kind of card he had.

All I know is my daughter, who is my 7 star companion, tried twice at Ballys Diamond Lounge to bring in a guest and was denied until she became Diamond herself last year. But thanks, that%26#39;s good to know.

Congrats, FYI, you also get an annual dinner worth up to $500 at any HET restaurant, you host can book it for you.

I don%26#39;t have any problem going in front of the line. Just like platinum has no problem going in front of gold and diamond has no problem going in front of platinum and gold. 7 star members lines start at the front of every line in HET properties.

I%26#39;m not looking to start this debate again, but 7 stars lines start at the front.
