Last week of June my wife and I will be traveling from New Haven, CT down to Wildwood for a week. We%26#39;ll be leaving midday on Friday, and want to get an idea of the best route as well as what to expect traffic-wise.
We frequently travel to SE PA, and our usual route is to take I-95 S, cut up to the Merrit/CT-15, then I287 across the Tappan Zee to avoid NYC altogether. To head to Wildwood we would just hop on the Garden State Pkwy after crossing the Tappan Zee. Traffic on Fridays can be nasty going over the Tappan Zee, but I%26#39;m still guessing this is our best bet. Any other thoughts or recommendations?
What can we expect traffic-wise on the GSP once we%26#39;re south of NYC...assuming we get past NYC by about 3pm? Will traffic be pretty heavy at that point heading down along the shore?
Google is putting the trip at 4 1/2 hours, how much of a delay should we expect on a Friday afternoon during the summer?
CT to Wildwood: Best route around NYC, what to expect?
The Parkway dosn%26#39;t go through NYC. But that would be the best route. You can also take 287 the whole way to the Parkway and get on in Woodbridge. 287 becomes 440 and goes right to the Parkway.
