Atlantic city - Total rewards

My husband and I are going to AC soon. Which one of the Harrahs%26#39; group hotels is the best one to stay at?

Atlantic city - Total rewards

it depends, do u want access to the boardwalk %26amp; ability to visit shopping, restaurants %26amp; other casinos on foot?

Atlantic city - Total rewards

There are 4 properties by Harrah%26#39;s in AC, If you are first timers, Caesar%26#39;s ';premium'; would be ideal because it%26#39;s on the boardwalk. If you don%26#39;t mind being off the boardwalk in the marina district, go with Harrah%26#39;s.

Agreed 100% with eapple71.

TC

Just because you%26#39;re staying at Caesars doesn%26#39;t mean you%26#39;ll get a good room. Some of their rooms are horrible. I%26#39;ve never seen a worse room anywhere than the one I was assigned last time. I was ready to go back home but a supervor gave me a better room. For consistently good rooms I would suggest the Showboat on the Boardwalk or Harrah%26#39;s in the Marina District.

I have had some really awful rooms at Cesears. Location wise I like Bally%26#39;s and the Dennis Tower has some nice renovated rooms. The Garden Tower is the best but good luck getting in there. If you don%26#39;t mind behind the boadwalk Harrahs new tower has some of the nicest rooms I have seen in quite some time. I personally don%26#39;t like Showboat, but that%26#39;s just me....

If you book Caesar%26#39;s, just book the luxury or premium room type. If you stay at Harrah%26#39;s, you cannot venture outside like you can on the boardwalk.

brigantine island - happy hours?

read the info from some of the regulars on the great times on the island. are there any happy hours (drink specials, reduced price apps, etc) that you might recommend? if you like such, the best that we have ever found are the ones at mccormick and smicks. drinks are full price but the food is out of this world and nothing over $4.95. the 1/2# cheeseburgers and fries are only $2.95 and can%26#39;t be beat. also they have seared tuna, crab cake and much more. there is one on harrah drive less than 3 miles from the island.

Harrah's on MSN Money List of Companies at Risk

MSN Money recently published a list of 30 companies at risk of going bankrupt, and it%26#39;s heavy on companies involved in the financial sector, the auto industry and, of course, travel.

No. 18: Harrah%26#39;s Entertainment, which controls 30 percent of the hotel rooms on the Las Vegas Strip, is controlled by private equity investors who are trying to buy the company%26#39;s debt at a steep discount so they%26#39;ll remain in charge if the company goes bankrupt, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

  • Any perks for signing up?

Hi- we will be in Atlantic City for 4 days at the end of the month and I was wondering if I should sign up for the card in each casino I gamble at? Do you get perks anywhere for doing this? Thank you.

    Any perks for signing up?

Yes,Definetly sign up for Players Cards. Most will give Slot Play Bucks or other Perks.Have Fun!!!

    Any perks for signing up?

The taj gives you 50 slot dollars and then mails you another 50 for a future trip

%26gt;%26gt;The taj gives you 50 slot dollars and then mails you another 50 for a future trip%26lt;%26lt; I saw on a billboard it ends in May, but unsure of the date.

My husband signed up for a Trump card at the Taj on May 5th and they told him at the signup booth that the ';Slot Dollars'; signup bonus was discontinued as of the previous Friday (May 1st). In fact, he was given NOTHING for signing up. Bummer! On the drive down he had mentally been deciding what machines to play with his Slot Dollars. Needless to say, he was disappointed.

I%26#39;ve seen a lot of changes (not for the good) at the Taj as of this month. Not sure I want to continue going there.

    kc

Kat - that promo is still on. I just got it a week ago. You should contact the casino and let them know there was a mistake. Also, that promo is still showing on ALL of the trump websites.

trop has sign up play two hours get a free room but in fine print i believe the room is mon-thurs

    %26gt;%26gt;Kat - that promo is still on. I just got it a week ago. %26lt;%26lt;

my sis just got the Trump $100 sign~up bonus 5/7 %26amp; turned the initial 50 slot$ and turned it into $160 %26amp; change. I do recall that it is not available to bus ppl, but do not recall the date the promo ends

That explains it! My husband and I were down there with the seniors on the bus. Darn, wish we had waited until we were down there another time, not with the bus group.

    Thanks for the info,

    kc

I see the Trump offer requires 30 minutes of play. Do they issue you the card and after you%26#39;ve played for 30 minutes the $50 shows up?

I don%26#39;t get it - how does any casino know whether you arrived on a bus? And why would they disqualify someone from a promo just because of how you got there? Rship, were you kidding about the bus people?

    Beach Bars

Hey All. New to this forum, but heading to A.C./Brigantine this weekend and wanted to know people%26#39;s opinions on the Beach Bars. It%26#39;s gonna be a group of guys are we do like live cover bands. What kind of scene could we expect at each and which generally has the best bands?

    Thanks!

    Beach Bars

forget the band and concetrate on the cougars....

get you growing up gotti do working the knock off carerra shades and one of the laurel and ed hardy tee shirts and you will do well at thebeach in front of ceasars and ballys

    Beach Bars

I%26#39;ve heard the beach bar at Trump Plaza is better than the one at Bally%26#39;s.

A friend of mine is a bartender.......go figure!

He tells me the beach bar at trump is so much better then the bikini beach bar at Ballys.

That could be because his friends work there :o)

    Bill

Bikini bar is cool, but I don%26#39;t think they have bands there. I found the crowd @ the Bikini bar younger than Trump%26#39;s beach bar last summer but Trump had a band.

The Deck Bar at Trump Marina has some good bands, I know every Sunday starting this weekend a band called '; The Exceptions '; plays from 2 till 6, they are excellent. Another good band that plays there is '; Don%26#39;t Call me Francis ';, not sure of their schedule.

I always liked the Hilton Beach Bar, they had bands, not sure if it is open this year.

This is a good question. I%26#39;ll be in AC next week and was wondering the same thing. What age groups frequent the different beach bars? How much should I expect to pay for drinks? Will is be a good scene on a Sunday night or just on Friday/Saturday?

    Thanks in advance.

I just called the Hilton about their beach bar and they informed me that it will only be opened on friday-sunday (12-10) until probably july.

    Empire City

It seems they are doing OK as opposed to the rest of the industry.

    http://www.lohud.com/article/2009905240346

    Empire City

I think they are doing OK because the have low overhead, they don%26#39;t have the same expenses that the casino%26#39;s in AC have. ( interest paymenets that are well beyond what they take in, comped rooms, food etc) I know I%26#39;ve been to Empire city a few times and for the amt. I gambled, I got back $5 and a 10% off food, not a big layout on their end. Just think of how many on any given day in AC are LFB.

Don%26#39;t get me started on the initial ';ploy'; of state education aid, why are just my school taxes over $7,000 and they keep going up,up,up. Our district on LI keeps getting state aid decreased and that%26#39;s passed on to the taxpayers. Someone%26#39;s making money, it just not the people they intended.

    Empire City

I agree about the education part. That is what Lotto was supposed to be used for. Every kid in NY should be going to Harvard at this point;)

  • atlantic city or cape may--can't decide we're in Delaware

we%26#39;re in wilmington delaware, from california, we can%26#39;t decide which day trip to do...atlantic city or cape may...suggestions. we%26#39;re not into gambling, but we%26#39;ve never been to atlantic city, more curious, but we%26#39;ve never been to cape may and that sounds good too. which would have less traffic going and coming?

thoughts, please. we%26#39;d like to decide by tomorrow morning when we turn our gps on. ;-) leaving around 8 a.m.

    thanks!

atlantic city or cape may--can't decide we're in Delaware

I%26#39;ve never been to Cape May but I%26#39;d still recommend going to Atlantic City, I believe it has more attractions and things to look at.

atlantic city or cape may--can't decide we're in Delaware

Since you are not into gambling, I%26#39;d suggest Cape May. Will you be taking the ferry from Delaware? If so, you are in Cape May when you get to the Jersey end of the trip. You can go to he Cape May Light House, tour some of the Victorian houses in Cape May, take a look at the great Cape May hotels, check out the beach and the shopping and lunch at someplace like the Ugly Mug. AC is about 40 miles farther up the Jersey Shore from Cape May so if you wanted, you could drive north up Cape May County following the Ocean Drive and check out little beach towns such as Avalon, Sea Isle City, Strathmere, Ocean City, etc and still check out AC. As to traffic, remember tomorrow is Memorial Day so weather and time of day will determine how much traffic there is, but I%26#39;d say the ater in the day, the more traffic on the Garden State and AC Expressway.

From Wilmington you can take the Delaware Memorial Bridge to Atlantic City or Cape May. The Cape May Ferry would be south a few hours out of your way.

We do like both but if I didn%26#39;t like the casinos I would stay in Cape May. Nice for shopping, touring and restaurants. There is enough in a day to see in Cape May and even venture to the lighthouse.

    Good Luck!

Absolutely Cape May over Atlantic City!

No matter which place you pick, there will be lots of traffic leaving... end of a 3 day weekend..any weekend in the summer there is lots of traffic leaving our shore towns..

I guess if you aren%26#39;t gambling and just want to walk around, Cape May is probably the place to go.. take the ferry if you can.. you won%26#39;t have to deal with so much traffic and its just an enjoyable way to travel.

I agree with the above choices for Cape May. If you%26#39;re not into casinos, Cape May is the better choice. Very scenic and a lot to see and do there. As suggested take the ferry if you can; it%26#39;s a great boat ride. I think traffic over The bridge can be a drag and not much scenic driving that way—especially with the weather now. If you want to drive further north toward AC, take the scenic Ocean Drive as Frank suggests. Have an enjoyable trip.

I know it's not Philly but...

Anywhere we can get an ';authentic'; - type cheeseteak in AC? My hubby loves cheesesteaks and AC is as close to Philly (distance-wise) as we%26#39;re gonna get for awhile.

I know it's not Philly but...

Tony Lukes in the Borgota. However Tony Lukes in Philly is 10 times better even though the one in the Borgota ain%26#39;t bad.

I know it's not Philly but...

if u want delivery to your 1br suite, u can try

    Uptown Deli

    530 Atlantic Ave

    Atlantic City, NJ

    609-347-3335

they have no place to sit down, but are close enough to get fast delivery to skyline tower boorah.com/restaurants/…Sandwich.html also try their onion rings

    What about the White House?

Some like the cheesesteaks at the White house.

    www.hollyeats.com/WhiteHouseSubs.htm

    www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx…

Some Philly people have told me that they like cheesesteaks from the Pic A Lilli Pub on Tennessee Ave, just off the boardwalk, across from the Irish Pub.

    …yahoo.com/info-25539157-picalilli-pub-atlan…

I agree Tony Lukes was the first place I thought of for good cheesesteaks... but I think in AC there will be lots of places for an ';authentic'; type cheesesteak...probably any of the pizza places you see there will have good cheesesteaks.

I agree that most any local pizza place on Pacific or Atlantic Avenues will give you a good basic Philly cheesesteak experience.

White House Subs (corner of Arctic and Mississippi Avenues in A.C.) is a landmark.

If you want what I consider to be the best in the area, and you have a car, drive about 4 miles from the heart of the casino zone and go to Dino%26#39;s, a modest-looking sub shop in Margate. It%26#39;s on the same island as Atlantic City. Just get onto Atlantic Avenue, which becomes Ventnor Avenue, and you don%26#39;t have to turn at all. You%26#39;ll go through part of Atlantic City, through the city of Ventnor, and then part of Margate. Once you hot Margate, the cross streets are in alphabetical order, starting with Argyle Avenue, usually 2 streets per letter. Dino%26#39;s is on Ventnor Avenue between Gladstone Ave. and Granville Ave.

What are my qualifications to answer this question? I was born and raised in Philadelphia, I currently live on the same island as Atlantic City, and I weigh more than I should. %26#39;Nuf said.

  • Walking Distances???

Hubby %26amp; I are staying at Wyndham Skyline Tower this weekend. How long will it take us to walk from there to:

    1. Tropicana

    2. AC Outlets (The Walk)

    3. White House Sub Shop

OR - should we take a jitney instead of walking?

    Walking Distances???

try using gmaps I mapped The Walk walk 4u http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2819991 I suggest using the boardwalk. there is no auto traffic making it safer [well I DID see a lost sedan get on it Sun %26amp; floor it, I immediately dialed 911]

1 last thing, do not jaywalk. Besides the town being full of tourists who are unfamiliar w/their surroundings [my suspicions for the above incident]. They may also be looking at street maps, tall buildings, etc and not the road. And AC does give jaywalking tix, esp near The Walk. Besides, we want u to return home alive %26amp; intact

    Walking Distances???

Yes, alive and intact is a plus!!!

Thanks rship1. I will check out the link you provided.

From Wyndham to the Pier at Caesars is very walkable, its about 10-15 mins.

I%26#39;m a Boardwalk runner, I know these distances. From the Wyndham Skyline Tower to Tropicana is roughly 1.25 miles. Straight down the Boardwalk. If the walk is bit much for you, you could walk across Pacific Avenue and take a jitney.

To the Walk, it%26#39;ll be roughly 0.75 miles on the Boardwalk and then a few blocks%26#39; walk away from the Boardwalk, so maybe 1 mile or so total.

White House Sub Shop is just another maybe 2 or 3 blocks downbeach from the edge of The Walk (downbeach is a local term that means going away from uptown A.C. ... when you walk from Skyline to Trop you are moving downbeach). White House is at the corner of Mississippi and Arctic Avenues; as a frame of reference, the nearest casino is Trump Plaza.

    Construction By Showboat

I had seen some comments regarding the Showboat and nearby construction - since the hubby and I were considering staying there in the next few months, we called them to ask about it.

I just wanted to share an update with you - we were told by the front desk that the contruction was next door and that it has stopped as a result of the recession.....

    ang

    Construction By Showboat

ur posting this to point out the incompetence of Harrah%26#39;s employees, right?

b/c a $2bil project stopping due to the recession just might have a news story or a press release to explain why such a huge project ended and hundreds of construction workers were laid off. like when they scaled back construction in Jan 09 and laid off 400+ppl... nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/01/revel_lays_off… excerpt %26#39;Wednesday January 28, 2009, 5:00 PM

    Revel Entertainment laid off 400 workers today and said it would stop interior work on the one new casino project in Atlantic City that hadn%26#39;t yet fallen victim to the economic crisis and the credit crunch%26#39;

    Construction By Showboat

They were working on it last weekend.

The front is really pretty now that you can clearly see the waved shaped glass front. I didn%26#39;t get to my room till 4am friday, and 2am Saturday, so of course they were not working on it in the middle of the night, but they have done a lot on it since a few months ago, at least the exterior, is really looking like it will be nice.

Just sharing what I was told - if it%26#39;s inaccurate - then I guess that it is as a result of an error on the part of the Front Desk clerk.....

Maybe they meant the parking lot section that is the closest to Showboat. It’s about 500 feet from SB. The exterior of that did seem to be mostly completed last Saturday. The casino and tower(s), still being worked on, are about another AC block farther away.

Its getting bigger and bigger, at least from the outside.

Primary construction work continues at the Revel site. Those cranes are busy.

    Hell's Kitchen Winner/Borgata event

On Regis %26amp; Kelly this morning winner of Hells Kitchen who wins a chefs job at the Borgata said the new name of the restaurant is Forneletto?(he was even wearing the chefs jacket w/the name and Borgata) Anybody who went to the Borgata showing last night know any details? And how was it?

    Hell's Kitchen Winner/Borgata event

Fornelletto will be located in the former Ombra location. You can read more here:

    pressofatlanticcity.com/life/article_3e9fea3…

    Hell's Kitchen Winner/Borgata event

It will open in mid June. I got to meet all of the contestants and take pics before the show. Sadly Chef Ramsey was not at the Borgata.

That%26#39;s cool that the contestants were there tho.

Hey! On the show they kept saying he would be ';head chef'; of the Borgata%26#39;s new restaurant.

According to the article he is going to be the sous chef, not the head chef.

The sous-chef de cuisine (under-chef of the kitchen) is the direct assistant of the executive chef and is second in command. They may be responsible for scheduling, and filling in when the executive chef is off-duty. The Sous Chef will also fill in for, or assist the chef de partie (line cook) when needed. Smaller operations may not have a sous chef, while larger operations may have multiple.

i dont believe any of the past contestants are in the positions the show claimed. they are not going to just hand that kind of job over to a reality tv show winner. they are compensated but remember it is a tv show....

I agree that they can%26#39;t just hand the winner over a restaurant of that stature......Danny as good as he is cooking doesnt make him a head chef, alot goes into that! The head sous chef seems closer to ';reality';!

Interesting. A couple of the employees at the Borgata had told me the actual winner passed up on the restaurant and took the money offer.

    Well they get the money if they take the job or not. But he%26#39;ll certainly be there. Besides meeting him at the event last week, it%26#39;s also confirmed on their twitter... ';@chefrock No, Danny will be there with Chef Kalt - we are excited to have em%26#39; both here. 5:49 PM May 21st from web in reply to chefrock';

Cool. Look forward to visiting there.

    Day Trip Need Some Advice

Hey Guys figured I%26#39;d post here because a lot of you are slot/VP gurus and this is def not my area of expertise. My girlfriend has been wanting to go to AC for awhile and I figure we should go tomorrow (Mon May 25) because we both have off from work and it%26#39;s only an hour drive. I normally go to AC about twice a month but I almost exclusively play poker.

I need some advice as to which casino pref HET has the best slot and VP selection. We%26#39;d like to play the penny or nickel slots as we aren%26#39;t high rollers. I also know VP strategy on a 9/6 JOB machine I wouldn%26#39;t mind teaching my gf so we could maximize our chances to win.

I received a comp dollar offer for Showboat so I%26#39;d like to play there or close by so I can redeem this for lunch. HET gives me the most offers so I%26#39;d like to continue playing there to try and earn some free rooms. Does showboat have any 9/6 machines? Also what slots must we play while there, I continue to read about WOZ machines, any more info?

    Thanks

    TheSkinz

    Day Trip Need Some Advice

I don%26#39;t have an answer to your questions but want to say Have Fun and GOOD LUCK.

    Day Trip Need Some Advice

Not much 9/6 job left at Bally%26#39;s, Caesars or Harrah%26#39;s. HET/Appolo has been tightening up so many paytables lately that showboat is probably your best bet. There are eight 9/6 in the HOB area in a circular setup if you can get a seat. They were still there last week. Plus they have the two bars which are probably the best VP comp bars left.

Slots are all mostly all the same and no way to know the payback, so they are all a gamble? The most rational strategy is to avoid progressives and lowest payback machines, the new “big Berthas.” You%26#39;ll should know them when you see them.

Have a fun %26amp; winning time.

I think Harrah%26#39;s marina has the biggest selection of slots but I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s any 9/6 vp machines left there. If you want to stick with Showboat because of your comp offer I think you%26#39;ll be satisfied but it is smaller then the other HET properties. I love the WOZ slots and did real well on them for a while but lately they haven%26#39;t been paying off for me. I don%26#39;t know if they have been changed to a lower payoff since they are so popular or I%26#39;ve had a bad streak.

Either way never gamble with more then you%26#39;re willing to lose and have fun doing it. Good luck and let us know how you made out.

  • Cape May wedding venue?

Hello. I am thinking about Cape May for my wedding ceremoeny (beach) and reception and need location suggestions. Here is what I am looking for:

Hosting a smaller wedding of approx 70 to 80 guests. Need a venue that would have a dance floor and allow for music for a late afternoon / evening event. I also need a venue that has a full bar (rather than just beer/wine). Also, my guests are coming from out of town and, being a wedding and all, many would likely enjoy an ';after party'; type of event, either at the venue%26#39;s bar or at one nearby (within walking distance). I want it to have a feeling of being fun and more casual, rather than formal. A bonus would be a venue that has inside/outside space - say the cocktail hour outside and the dinner inside. Do you know of any locations that might fit the bill? Many thanks in advance.

    Cape May wedding venue?

I got married in Cape May and it was a wonderful experience! My wife and I chose the Grand Hotel, which would meet the bill for all the things you requested- multiple nice ball rooms with plenty of room for dancing, full bar, outdoor second-floor patio overlooking the ocean, pirate-themed bar on the premesis, restaurant on the premesis, indoor and outdoor pools, spa, and so much more. Check it out.

Also, check out Congress Hall. It%26#39;s a bit more pricey, but the location is beautiful and they will take care of everything for you! Full bar, indoor and outdoor space, plenty of room for dancing and two bars for after parties. Also has a great on-site restaurant.

You can get some ideas here- www.capemay.com/weddings/real-brides.html

    (Incidentally, Andrea is my wife)

    Congrats!

    Congratulations!

I know several persons who had their reception at the Twinings at the Emlen Physick Estate. Their number is 800-275-4278, their website is www.capemaymac.org.

There us a planner, Weddings by the Sea. They seem to do alot of beach weddings, I see them from where I work just about every weekend. I had heard good %26amp; not so great, but check them out, I have heard more good than not, I guess it depends on exactly what you are looking for. Their number is 1-866-459-7900. They can arrange Beach ceremonies.

The Grand and Congress Hall both do a lovely job.

Good Luck, hope this information helps.

Family members of mine own Aleathea%26#39;s and the Hotel. A few friends have gotten married there and loved it. :)

Excellent suggestions from Pat! I wasn%26#39;t aware that MAC (non-profit group Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts) did weddings until recently. I just talked with Archie Kirk about weddings at the tea room. For those that don%26#39;t know, he and his wife own the Bedford Inn and he%26#39;s a board member of MAC.

What an amazing backdrop for that special day! Here%26#39;s a link to the MAC site for more info- www.capemaymac.org/content/subpage_main.aspx…

And I forgot to say it before, but congrats! I was married in Cape May myself and the memories are wonderful.

I am trying to arrange a car service to take my elderly father from Princeton to Washington DC. This can be rather pricey, and I was wondering if anyone knows of an option with relatively reasonable rates? Unfortunately the train is not an option for him

Or should we order a limoservice in advance ?

    Thanks for any help

If you are planning on sightseeing in NYC those few days, I would advise that you stay in Manhattan.

Thanks - we are arriving at EWR and it is our first time in NJ. NYC we know already and want go only 1 day to NYC. Due to Columbusday the hotels in Elizabeth are cheaper. We intend to book Country Inn

    Parking in Atlantic City ~boardwalk

    Hi there

We are looking to come to Atlantic City in a week, I am checking hotels and have a question on parking. If you don%26#39;t stay in a hotel on the boardwalk, but stay a few miles away and want to drive to the boardwalk is there parking lots to park your vehicle and what is the cost of them. I ask as that will make the difference in were and what hotel we stay at.

    Thank you

    PJohns

    Parking in Atlantic City ~boardwalk

You can park at any casino%26#39;s garage, weekday they%26#39;re usually $5, weekends they%26#39;re around $20 but I have found the claridge lot to be $5 sometimes. What prices have you come across, maybe we can help you choose your hotel.

    Parking in Atlantic City ~boardwalk

    Thank you eapple71

Do you have a suggestion for the lower priced hotels not on the boardwalk. We just need a place to rest our minds and bodies at the end of the day. I really hate to pay big bucks for a hotel and all you do is sleep there.

    Thank you

    PJ

can you give me the date of your stay please?

Parking is $5 if you have a player%26#39;s card. Most all places you pay on the way out. Hilton, Trop and Caesars all pay on exit. The sign might say $20 to scare people away but there%26#39;s a small sign that says $5 for players card holders.

The Harrah%26#39;s casinos are the same, $5 with a players card and you pay on the way out. Their boardwalk properties include Ballys, Caesars, and Showboat.

Re: cheaper accomodations Absecon or Pleasantville are good options. Convenient, 10-15 minute drive. Look on a site like Orbitz, Expedia, or Travelocity for ideas, pricing and reviews.

We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Absecon on Friday night. With AAA discount it was $95 a night, compared to the $250+ on the boardwalk. Hotel just opened in 2008 and our bathroom had HUGE whirpool tub as well as body jets on the wall. Free hot breakfast is also included. It%26#39;s a short drive on the White Horse Pike to the boards and we took our $150 savings to gamble with.

If the cost of parking is a consideration keep in mind that if you don%26#39;t keep moving your car you will only pay the minimum cost of parking at casino hotel for your whole stay. I.E. if you stay at Bally%26#39;s, for five days and don%26#39;t move your car, it will cost you $5 for your whole stay if you sign up for a total rewards card. If you stay somewhere else and park at Ballys each day for 5 days it will cost you $25.00 total, $5 each day.

We will be down M-F next week.

    thank you

    PJ

You can get Bally%26#39;s, Showboat or Harrah%26#39;s for $49/night. Decent road hotels are above this rate, this is a promo, harrahsresort.com/casinos/harrahs-atlantic-c…

I%26#39;d recommend Harrah%26#39;s or Bally%26#39;s hotel wise. For Harrah;s you should book the ';marina luxury'; and at Bally%26#39;s the ';premium'; for what its worth.

    Top Dollar slots

Hi all. I%26#39;m going to AC June 18 and have loved playing the top dollar slots. On the Harrahs slot finder it doesn%26#39;t look like anybody has the 1 or 2 cent machines anymore. Only one dollar one at caesars and the others are all $5.00. Is that true? Say it isn%26#39;t so.............. please

    Top Dollar slots

You can find a wall of Top Dollar machines at Tropicana for a penny.

    Top Dollar slots

The Troj has the penny ones, but they are no longer paying off like they used to. Caesars had the penny ones on the second floor, but they moved them a few times and the last time I was there I couldn%26#39;t find them at all.

i enjoy that one too. but the only one ive played recently is $1 ones at borgatta

We like the dollar Top Dollar also. We (3 middle aged cousins/sisters) each put in a twenty and have a ball. I know that annoys some people but we really have fun and get so excited when that top dollar comes up. I usually don%26#39;t play dollars on my own. There used to be a quarter Top Dollar somewhere in Atlantic City that I really liked too.

I haven%26#39;t seen the 1/2/5/10 cent top dollar slots in AC. I played that a lot in Vegas. In AC I usually play the $1 9 line game @ Harrahs or the $5 3 line game at ballys or showboat. I haven%26#39;t played it @ Caesars before. Maybe next trip. :)

Oh wow, I have never seen the 9 line $1 machine. That is a big bet.

    Historic Craps roll at Borgata

    Hey Judy,

Did you see the lady that rolled for 4 hours 18 minutes straight in craps at the Borgata? They wouldn%26#39;t say how much she won off her $100 initial bid but her and hubby was sipping Champagne and there was a lot of chips on the table.

Maybe the ';Dude'; was at that table? LOL

    Historic Craps roll at Borgata

The article I saw said she had 154 rolls before she crapped out!! That is uuunbeeelieeevable!!!

This was only her second time to play craps. I%26#39;m betting the first time she played she did not roll the dice. That would have made her a craps virgin and does not surprise me at all.

  • Craps player sets record

This was on our Cleveland news website today:

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Saturday was a record-setting night for a novice craps player at an Atlantic City casino.

Patricia Demauro set a new record for the longest craps roll, hanging on for four hours and 18 minutes at the Borgata Hotel Casino %26amp; Spa.

Borgata officials say she beat the previous record by one hour and 12 minutes. They say Stanley Fujitake of Honolulu, set that record nearly 20 years ago in Las Vegas.

';This was only my second time playing craps, so this was very exciting for me to be a part of history,'; says Demauro, who lives in Denville in northern New Jersey.

Demauro bought into a game for $100 and quickly amassed a cheering crowd. When she finally lost around 12:31 a.m., after 154 rolls of the dice, she was greeted by Borgata with a champagne toast.

The casino wouldn%26#39;t say how much Demauro won.

What Happened To The Wooden Rabbit B&B?

I see that Nancy and Dave McGonigle are no longer operating the Wooden Rabbit as a bed and breakfast. I know they had the property for sale and was wondering if anyone knows if it has been sold. I am hoping that it will open again as a bed and breakfast.

I%26#39;m so disappointed because out of the different places we have stayed, the Wooden Rabbit was our favorite. Nancy and Dave were the most gracious hosts ever! Best of luck to them in their future endeavors or retirement!

What Happened To The Wooden Rabbit B%26amp;B?

According to the June issue of Cape May Magazine, the Wooden Rabbit is now a private residence and is no longer functioning as a B %26amp; B.

What Happened To The Wooden Rabbit B%26amp;B?

I am glad for your response as I was still thinking about the Wooden Rabbit. It%26#39;s such a beautiful home. I am disappointed that we will no longer be able to stay there as guests!

    Thank you!

Thank you for the extended info, but unfortunately we can not allow any advertisments for a specific location or restaurant in the forum. This post will be removed shortly, in accordance with TripAdvisor posting guidelines.

I wish the you all the luck in the world with your new ';Menu%26#39;s'; restaurant and I thank you for bringing your business to Cape May.

Once Dave %26amp; Nancy sold it, it became a private residence. It never operated as a B%26amp;B again. I don%26#39;t know where one other poster got their information, but it clearly says WOODEN RABBIT PRIVATE RESIDENCE on the sign out front. It%26#39;s a shame because it was the BEST place to stay.

Can you tell me for how long Nancy and Dave McGonigle operated the Wooden Rabbit? A dear friendd of mine from years ago opened the Wooden Rabbit in 1988. I am trying to locate her and her husband, Deborah %26amp; Greg Burows. Does anyone know where I might find this couple? If so my email address is Phillygirl1020@gmail.com

My wife and I purchased the Wooden Rabbit from the McGonigles in 2005. They are living in Ocean City, NJ. Nancy is working in interior decorating, and is grand mother. You can find them in the phone book. Dave is also the contractor for the Mid Atlantic Center for the Arts Decorator Showcase home in Cape May this year. He is always there. You may also consider contacting MAC for his number or stop by the house.

    Bally's - Which tower should I request

Got a comped room for July 1st. Only staying 1 night. Just want a clean room. Which tower should I try to get? Or which should I avoid?

    Bally's - Which tower should I request

Try and avoid the Claridge Tower, Just older/dated rooms, however they are clean.

    Bally's - Which tower should I request

Avoid the Claridge. Stay in the Ballys Tower, or the Dennis Tower

I recently stayed in a corner room on the 20th floor in the Claridge and liked it very much. I%26#39;ve stayed three or four times in the Dennis on the 7th floor and was satisfied. I%26#39;ve probably stayed in Bally%26#39;s Tower at least fifty times on high floors and was about as happy as I can get as those rooms are spacious with wonderful ocean/city views.

If you check in/register before noon and treat the desk clerk with respect, request a nice high room with a view and tell her/him you are willing to wait for a nice room, you will probably be satisfied.

If you are a pool/sunning person, you really need to check out the spa.

    Have a great visit!

we stayed in the Garden tower, above the garage, very nice room, but no view, enjoy your stay

    The Claridge rooms are okay, if you are only looking for a place to sleep. I stayed in the Dennis building once and liked it more than the Claridge. That time I had been offered a ';premium'; room. The rooms in the main tower are the nicest, but my experience is that unless you are a high level player you cannot get one. In fact, once I had a reservation for a Tower room (that I was paying for) and ended up in the Claridge. Their standard line seems to be ';we have a convention in the Tower.';

When I stay at Bally%26#39;s, I almost always get dumped in the Claridge Tower. Out of the four HET properties, they seem the stick to the ';room classification system'; the most (Bally%26#39;s - Diamond, Dennis/Garden - Platinum, Claridge - Gold). Everytime I check-in and ask for the Bally%26#39;s tower, I am told that is for paying customers and Diamond or higher comped rooms only.

All of the rooms are clean. The oldest rooms are in the Clardige Tower. Like others have stated, it is fine if you are looking to have a place to sleep, shower, and watch a little television.

My last trip, I tried the $10 tip at check-in and was able to get a room in the Garden Tower. The room was very nice, new, and colorful, but the view was horrible.

Getting from Newark area to NYC on NJ Transit

Hello, we will be staying at the Hampton Inn %26amp; Suites Newark-Harrison-Riverwalk due to Hilton Honors points being more affordable than staying in NYC. I am not well versed on the NYC area as we have only been once and never stayed in EWR.

Can someone double check the travel time from the EWR Penn station to Manhattan? Hotel tells me it is $7 r/t per person and takes 16 minutes non-stop on NJ transit? Is that peak time? How much is the fare for a 15 yr old? Can someone direct me to the exact line/schedule this is? Hotel says they have a shuttle to the train station. This seems like a good alternative to staying right in NYC. We have enough points to stay at least 3 nights free.

    Thank you for your help.

Getting from Newark area to NYC on NJ Transit

Also what is the difference between the PATH and NJ Transit? I understand the PATH is only $1.50 but it takes you close to the WTC in Manhattan correct? Is it non-stop?

Getting from Newark area to NYC on NJ Transit

Couple things. First of all EWR is just the airport not the whole city of Newark. Second of all your hotel is much closer to Broad Street than Penn Station even though there are more trains at Penn than broad. Third the travel time could be 16 minutes could be an hour. Plan a Half hour to 45 minutes to be safe. Also New Jersey has alot to offer. The Bears minor leugue baseball team, puts on a fireworks display after every friday home game. The stadium is right across the the river from your hotel. about a 5 minute walk. here are a few links. If you have any other questions pleas feel free to contact me.

Sorry I started writing and then left to atend to some personal bussiness,. The PATH from Penn Station only goes to the world trade center however if you change at Journal Square you can get to the 33rd st. line. However during the late night hours and all day saturday and sunday the Path goes from Journal Square to Hoboken and then onto 33rd. Also the at Journal Square the 33rd Street train leaves literally 5 minutes after the WTC train however I have waited sometimes upto an hour for the Newark train at Journal Square coming off the 33rd train.

Forgot to add earlier. The Path fare is $1.75.

    Hollywood Casino Club Hollywood

I just received by June mailer from Hollywood Casino/Penn National. They are still rolling out the star treatment with a whole $8 in slot play week! But they have a new Club Hollywood Reward program. The base card is Club Hollywood, which is basically the same as Director now. The next level is Celebrity which includes: 10% Discount at Rodeo Drive Gift Shop, Complimentary alcohol beverages (while actively playing), Invitations to Club Level parties and events, Free valet parking Sunday thru Thursday. The top level, Producer includes: Free valet parking every day, Preferred parking-1st floor garage, Priority seating in restaurants, Exclusive Line at Player Service, Booking fees waived for private banquets or parties plus a race named in your group%26#39;s honor!, Exclusive access to VIP Lounge (coming soon). No details on what is required to reach each level, but it%26#39;s a step ahead in comp alcoholic beverages. The $8 though still leaves me unimpressed however. $70 at Borgata vs $8 at Hollywood. Hmm, I wonder which I%26#39;m going to pick?!

  • CT to Wildwood: Best route around NYC, what to expect?

Last week of June my wife and I will be traveling from New Haven, CT down to Wildwood for a week. We%26#39;ll be leaving midday on Friday, and want to get an idea of the best route as well as what to expect traffic-wise.

We frequently travel to SE PA, and our usual route is to take I-95 S, cut up to the Merrit/CT-15, then I287 across the Tappan Zee to avoid NYC altogether. To head to Wildwood we would just hop on the Garden State Pkwy after crossing the Tappan Zee. Traffic on Fridays can be nasty going over the Tappan Zee, but I%26#39;m still guessing this is our best bet. Any other thoughts or recommendations?

What can we expect traffic-wise on the GSP once we%26#39;re south of NYC...assuming we get past NYC by about 3pm? Will traffic be pretty heavy at that point heading down along the shore?

Google is putting the trip at 4 1/2 hours, how much of a delay should we expect on a Friday afternoon during the summer?

CT to Wildwood: Best route around NYC, what to expect?

The Parkway dosn%26#39;t go through NYC. But that would be the best route. You can also take 287 the whole way to the Parkway and get on in Woodbridge. 287 becomes 440 and goes right to the Parkway.

What is the Resorts casino like? We have gone to AC probably gone to AC 10 times and never gone in there because it looks so dark and dreary. I looked at their website and it looks like they may have a good selection of slots.

    Resorts

Nice Casino but small. They do have a Great selection of Slots!!!

    Resorts

I use to think their casino was dark and dreary also..but now I love it there.. I think they changed it somewhat and they have a great selection of slots.. lots of .01 and .05 machines.. give it a try-you might really like it there.

I think they are really trying. They, along with the Hilton, have some really good cheap (or free)shows. They are also getting good reviews for their Boogie Nights club, which sounds like fun.

I stopped going because I NEVER seemed to win on the slots and they don%26#39;t have many tables, of which most were closed due to no dealers.

I would definately try it, you might just love it.

We have never gone to the Hilton either. How far down is it from Tropicana? We don%26#39;t mind walking the Boardwalk but it always looks SO far.

Hilton %26amp; Trop are about 2 blocks apart.

Resorts was built in a grand old boardwalk hotel [Chalfonte-Haddon Hall Hotel …wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalfonte-Haddon_Hall_Ho… ] which gives it a unique feel. Try walking thru the hotel common areas to look for old time workmanship %26amp; marble floors/columns. the casino is narrow, but you%26#39;ll find the cocktail service prompt and most of all, the servers make an audible %26#39;thank you%26#39; w/a smile. the quick service and the SMILES have me hooked.

if you enter from the boards, I suggest avoiding the main entrance as you will be approached by timeshare salesppl. use the entrance next to BeachBall Deli.

Please direct me to the right place!

Hello! I grew up going to Wildwood Crest in the summer. We would always stay at the Reges. Now I am older (30) and going with a couple girlfriends for an extended weekend (sat to tues) in early August. We would like something that is clean, on the ocean (not a couple blocks away with an ';ocean view';), and that has a bar or lounge area by the pool. Originally I thought Aqua Beach would fit the bill, but then I read the reviews :(

We would like to be close enough to the boardwalk for convenience, but not so close that the noise keeps us up all night.

I am finding that the nicer, more upscale places require a week minimum stay and well, that%26#39;s just not an option. We%26#39;re willing to pay up to $300 a night for a room.

Can anyone please make some suggestions? It%26#39;s been so many years since I%26#39;ve been there and I know the landscape has changed, with new hotels, resorts, etc. Thank you!

Please direct me to the right place!

I am replying to my own post.. I was just informed that alcohol is not allowed to be sold in Wildwood Crest...therefore, I would like help with hotels in the actual city of Wildwood that fits the same criteria as above. We%26#39;d like to be able to go downstairs to a bar by the pool and enjoy a cocktail in our hotel...I guess you can%26#39;t do that in Wildwood Crest!

Please direct me to the right place!

The Crest is dry. You can buy your drink of choice elsewhere, liquor stores are easy to find. You can drink them on your balcony or around the pool. You just can%26#39;t buy it in Wildwood Crest.

Are the restaurants BYOB and charge corkage then?

BYOB restaurants in the Crest...Little Italy, 5401 Atlantic. That%26#39;s all I can think of right now. I don%26#39;t know if they charge.

There aren%26#39;t that many sit down restaurants, no bars, in the Crest, since it%26#39;s dry. You can drive less than a mile and hit the Bayshore or Crest Tavern, really Diamond Beach, where liquor is readily served.

If you want to stay in Wildwood, call the Days Inn.

Thanks for everyone%26#39;s input. We have decided to stay at the Montego Bay. I have read the reviews, and though it seems to have some issues (smelly, small elevator and cold water in the indoor pool), we%26#39;re not really concerned with that because a) We will take the stairs, and b) We don%26#39;t have kids and don%26#39;t want to be subjected to them so we won%26#39;t be hanging by the pools. Otherwise, its location right on the boardwalk, ocean front view, and a bar and restaurant being right on the premises is what led us to this place. I%26#39;ve read both good and bad reviews....I know what and what not to expect from Jersey Shore hotels, so I%26#39;m not expecting the Ritz, lol. Anyway, hopefully I%26#39;ve made the right decision....I can imagine though, knowing the type of friends I have, that we%26#39;ll have fun no matter where we go really. :)

The only reason I didn%26#39;t suggest Montego Bay was it%26#39;s in North Wildwood, you only mentioned WC and Wildwood proper, plus the not so positive reviews posted. The indoor pool also has a water park. Their outside pool had great views of the beach + ocean.

For a breakfast recommendation I would suggest both Pompeo%26#39;s @ 17th on the Boardwalk or Samuels Pancake House @ 17th + Surf, both have been around for years, never disappoint. There is Owens Pub at 17th on the east side of New Jersey Ave, it open year round with lots of friendly folks both locals and tourist, good reasonable prices, happy hour.

You can ride the tramcar along the boardwalk to you club of choice in Wildwood if you wish. There are cabs available if you want to venture down to the North Wildwood bar area in Anglesea.

    Enjoy!

    Allamuchy, NJ

My husband, son (15 months) and I are driving cross country (for a move) at the beginning of June. Our first stop will be near Allamuchy, NJ. (We may end up driving a bit father into PA, so I%26#39;ll post this there as well).

I%26#39;m looking for any recommendations for family-friendly lodging and/or restaurants in the area. We%26#39;d love to support locally-owned places, rather than big chains, but they need to be fairly close to I-80. Lodging with family suites and/or cabins/cottages would be the absolute best.

    Thanks!

    Allamuchy, NJ

I can%26#39;t think of anything in Allamuchy but there are plenty of little shops and resturants in Hackettstown the next town over. What I would do is get off of 80 at exit 30 Mt. Arlington, Howard Blvd. Make left on Howard and take that to U.S 46. Make a right on 46. 46 has alot of things on that strectch.

    Allamuchy, NJ

I agree w/ the last posting - nothing in Allamuchy stands out to me. Head east on Rte 80 to Rockaway and there is the Rockaway Town Square Mall - which has a couple of chain hotels nearby.

About in the same general area (give or take a few miles) are a couple of nice restaurants - Pot Belly Pig and Black River Barn. Pot Belly Pig is a small restaurant - maybe seats 30-40 people, but they have a really great chef w/ some nice American cuisine. Black River Barn is a larger restaurant - big fieldstone fireplace, and a very nice menu of American fare. Both can be fine for a young boy.

    Adding a new restaurant....

Does anyone know how long it takes TA to add a resaurant and/or hotel not listed. I used the ';write a review'; form and it states they will email me when I can post a review, but it seems like it is taking a very, very long time for a response. Has anyone on the board had a restaurant and/or hotel/attraction added? Thanks.....

    Adding a new restaurant....

I did once but it was over a year ago and I seem to recall it was about a week. The holiday could be slowing things down also.

    Adding a new restaurant....

    Thanks....

Although I didn%26#39;t add a restaurant or hotel, I did write a review on Cherokee, N.C. and it took several days for it to be posted.

I have read on here that lots of times you can%26#39;t find anyplace open to eat at. Has that changed at all lately? I love to get coffee %26amp; a bagel at Gerts at Ballys WWW and eat at Pickles each visit. Are they open regularly? Also what are the $7.77 specials at Six? And is Cafe Roma still open 24 hours/day?

    Restaurant hours lately

It%26#39;s getting harder and harder to find a place to eat late at night. Cafe Roma is only opened from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the week and supposedly 24 hours on the weekend. Showboat has suites with a balcony that look out to the ocean. They%26#39;re great rooms. I%26#39;m not sure about any others.

I recently got married and read several negative reviews for Ocean Place Resort on wedding website forums due to rude/unhelpful staff. I have been there once, for a conference - it was lovely and I saw nothing alarming, but be cautious.

did you get married there?? why do you say to be cautious ?

    Hi:

I hope you did NOT book your wedding at The Ocean Place Resort. I just got married there on October 6 2006 and it was horrible! I am in the process of writing a letter to the manager and also to local newspapers because they ruined my day! I cried the entire day before the wedding due to the rude and incompetent wedding staff. If you are interested in the details, please let me know and i will send you a copy of the letter. The location is beautiful, however the resort and staff are NOT!

The wedding staff is RUDE and incompetent. You only get married once and it should be they way you envision it - The Ocean Place Resort %26amp; Spa does not care about you, they view you as a number and a financial asset. If you want more details, let me know! Best of luck!

I don%26#39;t know what your budget is but there are so many wonderful places to get married at the beach, you should visit as many alternatives as you can... Take Ocean Grove for example, they do so many weddings at all the inns, you can have all your guests stay right in town with a bunch of things to do, the rehersal dinner to the actual reception can be beautiful and at the shore right there in the sand, or for those less dramatic but effective, the North Pavillion or the Youth Temple or even Thornly Chapel for a more intimate affair.. Then there are other places and the inns you have to choose from are from Grand Style to modest depending on your budget and so close with all of the wonderful things a wedding should be... why not go for a wedding you plan instead of one that is planned for you?? Or do the wedding at the beach and the reception at a nice place nearby that is fun and Beautiful!??! www.oceangrovenj.com

look for some alternatives to get exactly the wedding you want!

OK, I have never been at a wedding there, so this is hearsay. My Jazzercise instructor attended a wedding there. She said that they insisted that the cocktail hour be done outdoors. When it began to rain, they moved everyone indoors, but not the food. Many people went to the bar and they tried to charge them for drinks. My instructor was starving, but was unable to get any food. This doesn%26#39;t sound like what you would expect from a top rate establishment. If you have your wedding there and you are to have either the wedding or the cocktail hour outdoors, I would definitely inquire as to what the contingency plans are.

    JFK to Hyatt Jersey City

My wife and I will be arriving at JFK early afternoon on Saturday 23rd June.We are looking for the best way to get to the Hyatt in Jersey City. We took a cab on our last visit as we stayed at Times Square. Will it cost much more to Jersey City by cab? We thought about getting the Train into Penn Station but don%26#39;t know if there will be too many cahnges. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks

    JFK to Hyatt Jersey City

I would try to change your flight to Newark. You can take the subway to the PATH to exchange place.

    JFK to Hyatt Jersey City

Unfortunately we have to fly with delta and will have to settle for JFK. Thanks for the suggestion anyway

My mother and I flew into JFK with Delta in April and did the same journey by public transport. We caught the air train from JFK to Jamaica Sulphin Boulevard, then the subway to WTC and the PATH train from WTC to Exchange Place right outside the Hyatt. It cost less than $9 each and took about 90 minutes to 2 hours to do the full journey. We had to walk a block from the subway to the PATH train but it was easy to find and everybody was really helpful.

Thanks Gemma, can you buy through tickets from the airport to WTC or do you have to buy tickets at each change.

Can anyone advise if it would be quicker to take the Long Island Rail Road from Jamaica to Penn Station and change there for the PATH thanks

Yes, the LIRR is quicker because it has fewer stops.

We bought one ticket from the airport to WTC.

    AC Airport ?

How long does it take to get from the Atlantic City Airport to the Boardwalk?

    AC Airport ?

    Under normal conditions...about 15 minutes.

    AC Airport ?

usually get picked up by one of those tour buses at the airport,i was going to say 20 min to the marina, only had bad traffic once but that can change at any time

Is the Tropiano Shuttle ($13) the best way to get to and from AC for someone flying into the city alone?

    Hi everyone,

Hope you are all having a safe and fun memorial weekend.

Does anyone know if there is a piano bar at any of the casinos? I think there used to be one at the Trop maybe? I%26#39;d prefer one on or near the boardwalk that plays jazz standards but, not sure if anyplace fits that bill.

    Thanks,

    Nancy

As far as I know the Trop is the only casino that might still have the piano bar.

Not sure what they have going on this weekend, but on Saturday nights they have some jazz standards at the Formica Bakery that supplies the White House Sub Shop. “the coffee house is transformed into a Jazz café, where you can hear the Formica House band (7pm – 10pm) along with local legends . . .”

    Airlines with personal TVs

A bit off topic, but does anyone here know if Delta or VirginAmerica flights from JFK to Las Vegas have personal TVs (with regular TV stations instead of just movies as Jet Blue does)???? TIA

    Airlines with personal TVs

I took Delta to Vegas out of JFK and they did have personal TV%26#39;s. (It was a nice surprise since we came armed with our portable DVD players and plenty of gambling movies) We were looking into Virgin and according to their website (pictures of the interior of the planes) they also have personal TV%26#39;s

    Good Luck and have fun...

jet blue also has personal tvs

thanks much. Looking to book soon for October (can%26#39;t believe how low the fares are) but I need my TV when I%26#39;m flying !

On FRiday, Sept. 26th I had to cancell our 3 day Romantic Getaway, due to my mom being rushed to the hospital....I called and asked if I could get my $100. deposit refunded and the answer, cold as ice with no compassion was a NO....I even asked for 1/2 of the money or to be put towards another stay...the answer was just NO...Its the policy for no refunds after 2 weeks....

I%26#39;m sorry, but this was an emergency...I was all packed and ready to come there.

I am very upset over this....I have been at the Pan American before and I liked this hotel...The woman I spoke to just was cold as ice and wouldn%26#39;t even offer anything.

Please give me some feedback on this situation.

I%26#39;m sorry about your mom. I hope that she is doing better.

I had a similar situation with a B%26amp;B in Cape May several years ago. The weekend before I was supposed to go, my mother died. I was out not only the deposit, but the cost of the room for the whole weekend! I phoned them in tears begging them to let me change my reservation to a different weekend, but they refused and said the only way they would give me a refund is if they were able to rent the room to someone else. Needless to say, they never did rent that room. And I never went back there.

    No Refund

Tell us the name of the B%26amp;B and we will make sure never to stay there - thanks.

hi wonder if anyone can advise the best way to get from Newark airport to the Atlantic Palace in August.

Also same question for the return journey from Palace to Philadelphia airport.

We%26#39;re from the UK some not exactly familiar with the US transport system.

    thanks

travel to Atlantic Palace from Newark airport

The easiest is to rent a car and drive. There is no direct public transportation. There are numerous other posts here on the subject. Use the search feature just below the green bar at the top of the forum and type in newark and you get lots of suggestions. If you rent a car remember we drive on the right side. I hope you can get used to that. I know being in countries that drive on the left really messes me up.

travel to Atlantic Palace from Newark airport

If you come on a friday saturday or sunday you can take the ACES train from Penn Station to AC. Take the Monorail to the raillink station, take New Jersey Transit one stop to Penn Station, and change there for the ACES.

    www.njtransit.com

on the trip to Philly airport u can take the AC line http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/r0090.pdf train to 30th Street Station %26amp; SEPTA septa.org/service/sched/pdfs/R1Airport.pdf to the Philly airport

You can take a Newark Liberty Airport Express bus to the Port Authority (about $13 or so one-way, it%26#39;s been a while since I%26#39;ve done it.) You can save a few dollars if you use NJ Transit, but it requires a bit more shlepping around, which doesn%26#39;t appeal to me (you may not mind.)

From the Port Authority, you can take an Academy bus to AC (Greyhound/Lucky Strike are there also.) The Academy bus is $35 (round-trip only); you will get about $20 back in cash or slot play from the casino.

I%26#39;m a New Yorker, can%26#39;t help you on the return to Philly.

  • Budget accom in AC - Is it worth a visit?

    Hey :)

Currently i am starting to plan a backpacking trip around the US for 6-8 weeks relying on public transport (i%26#39;ve already heard its going to be hard!) and wondered if Atlantic City is worth a visit.

Basically, we will be going to Las Vegas later on so should we miss Atlantic City if we%26#39;re going there? Are there budget accommodations and is there a greyhound station that links to the main tourist spots??

    Thanks for any help!

Budget accom in AC - Is it worth a visit?

AC is certainly worth a visit. Unfortunately, if you%26#39;re planning your trip for the summer months you%26#39;ll be hard pressed to find anything resembling ';budget'; accomodations on the upper east coast.

However, AC is an easy ';day trip'; from either Philadelphia or NYC. There are a number of bus lines that run to/from both cities. In addition, New Jersey Transit runs trains to/from Philadelphia and there is a new ';ACES'; train on weekends from NYC.

Consider making Philly your good base of operations for this part of the US - both for it%26#39;s historic importance and as a convenient transportation center.

Budget accom in AC - Is it worth a visit?

I%26#39;d miss Atlantic City since your going to Vegas later.

It really depends on why you are planning to visit AC. If you%26#39;re coming strictly to gamble, then save it for Vegas. But if you want to experience a different part of America, AC is definitely worth a visit, as is the entire Jersey shore. About the only thing it has in common with Vegas is gambling (socio/economic problems aside). There are several lively casinos, a unique boardwalk, and the beautiful beach and ocean. Shopping is available for all budgets, there are tons of restaurants in every price range, clubs from dumpy to ultra, and entertainment galore. It%26#39;s quite easy to get to AC from NY or Philly, and there are even bus trips that will refund some of the fare in slot cash or other comps. If you want to spend a night, come during mid-week when room rates are the cheapest. If you plan ahead you can get some really good prices on casino hotels; Bally%26#39;s was recently around $20 per night in the off-season. If you can swing it, you should definitely plan to visit; just don%26#39;t come expecting it to be anything like Vegas.

    Cheers,

My most exciting win ever!! TR 5/21-5/23

    Hi,

Believe it or not, I couldn%26#39;t wait to get home and write this report. I won a lot of $$ last year, but this trip was amazing.

Amtrak was thankfully uneventful and for the most part on time both ways. Thank God, because I sure didn%26#39;t need that aggravation again. Paula picked me up %26amp; we had a relatively clear trip into AC. We both heard that morning the story on the news about the couple in New Zealand who accidentally had $6 mill deposited in their account %26amp; cashed it out and took off with the money. We both got quite a good laugh out of that. I had to make a very important business call that ended up going quite well so we arrived at the Borgata pretty happy. Yes, welcome to our Happy place.

We get our rooms %26amp; go up %26amp; unpack %26amp; then hit the floor to see what we had for mystery slot $$. We both got the minimum $100 and I went thru mine on QuickHits pretty quick. I spent a couple hours losing (Paula%26#39;s details are hers to tell) %26amp; we headed to Old Homestead for dinner. Both the restaurant %26amp; the casino were surprisingly busy. I think a lot of people decided to do what we did-come down on Thursday nite %26amp; take Friday off for a nice long weekend.

We had a great dinner at the Old Homestead (as usual). I have never had a bad meal yet. This was a new menu-the prices had increased for each entree by a few dollars, and they had also added a veal parm type dish to the menu. I thought that was interesting. It took about 30-40 mins between our salad %26amp; our entrees, something I have not experienced there before, but we were fine. We never run out of things to talk about!

After dinner, we brought our leftovers to our rooms %26amp; hit the floor. Paula went off to play cards, %26amp; I went back to QuickHits. The only machine open was the Stars%26amp;Bars machine on the end. I rarely play this one. It%26#39;s never my first choice. I sit down %26amp; put in a Benjamin %26amp; the machine is doing pretty well. I have a lively group of older ladies in the 4 seats next to me, and there was also another group of older ladies behind me that were making a lot of noise %26amp; having a good time. And the craps table had a really rowdy group of younger guys, so this area was very noisy.

This machine I don%26#39;t care for was doing pretty well. I got a couple of good bonus rounds %26amp; had the machine up over $800. I had hit the $25 bonus a few times, the $125 once when I had hit the button %26amp; noticed the screen was filling up with QuickHits. WINNER flashed across the top in the $2500 spot! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! The women next to me started yelling %26amp; that prompted the group behind me to turn around %26amp; they started whooping it up and clapping. Then, OMG a young guy runs over from the craps table and I swear he must have just graduated from Ridgemont High-he had the hair %26amp; the vocabulary - ';Awesome, wow, that%26#39;s RAD!'; as he stood admiring my machine, head bobbing up and down ';totally awesome, man'; and then he wandered back to the table, ';Dude, she just won $2500 bucks. How come we haven%26#39;t won $2500 bucks?'; I really think this might have been his first time in a casino.

So I call Paula on my cell %26amp; tell her about the win. I said you gotta come over %26amp; see it-because she does play QuickHits with me %26amp; it%26#39;s really quite something to see all those blinking lights on the screen. So she arrives a few minutes later, very happy for my win (I haven%26#39;t had a W2G since Feb) tells me how she%26#39;s doing %26amp; then goes off to another VP machine. The guy pays me %26amp; of course my $800 plus is still in the machine. He says are you done %26amp; I said No, I%26#39;m gonna keep playing. Where else was I going to go? I do like the game that%26#39;s why I play it. So he resets the machine, slams the door %26amp; off he goes. Me %26amp; my bulging purse sit back down %26amp; the waitress delivers me another drink. I%26#39;m liking this machine now %26amp; I%26#39;m going to settle in for a bit. I hit the spin button. Nothing. Well, to be expected. Hit it again. Nothing. Hit it again. It takes my brain a few seconds to comprehend what I am looking at on the screen. Thank God they have those bells that go off-I knew they were there for a reason. My machine is flashing WINNER--again. And my machine is flashing winner in the second prize $2500 spot AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I jump out of my chair %26amp; scream OMG!!!!! The entire row I was sitting in AND the entire row of people behind me go nuts. This prompts another fast run from the craps table by Mr. Fast Times at Ridgemont High-- ';DUDETTE!!!!!! What NOW?!!'; OMG !!!'; By this time I have fallen back into the chair leaning into the woman next to me because we are laughing so hysterically %26amp; at this point I can barely catch my breath.

I grab my phone %26amp; dial Paula. She answers %26amp; I scream into the phone OMG!!! I just won twenty five hundred dollars!!! She says I know, I was there with you! And then she hangs up on me!! At this precise nanosecond my host comes around the corner - he was just making a random stop to say Hi %26amp; his eyes bug out of his head. Wow! he says. I said Dave, will you please go %26amp; find my friend Paula %26amp; tell her I won again?! I just called her %26amp; she hung up on me! I could tell he was perplexed by this %26amp; I say Dave, this is my SECOND $2500 win on this machine they just paid me about 5 minutes ago!! Now the attendant who paid me 5-10 minutes ago comes around the corner %26amp; he goes-didn%26#39;t I reset this? I said oh yes you did! and his eyes bug out of his head. And off he goes, along with Dave who will hopefully find Paula.

I%26#39;ll let her tell that part of the story, it%26#39;s pretty funny-well, it was to me. So I continued to play my new all-time favorite QuickHits machine %26amp; cashed out with a $1300 plus voucher. Dave comes back %26amp; tells me where Paula is located %26amp; I go find her. We have a relatively brief conversation %26amp; some laughs %26amp; off I go to the room to dump out my purse.

I spent the rest of the night wandering around playing games I always want to play but never want to part with the cash to do it. I played all nite on my $1300 plus voucher, not really winning anything big, but not spending any of my stash either. I went to bed at 5 a.m.

The next morning I awake %26amp; open my eyes %26amp; the mirror on the wall registers in my brain %26amp; I go, Oh, Borgata.....and then a smile comes across my face %26amp; my brain registers, OH......BORGATA.........and then my stomach chimes in %26amp; goes OH!! too much wine %26amp; I roll over %26amp; drift in and out of consciousness until I hear the cellphone ringing somewhere-is it in the bathroom? Wow-it is AND it is attached to the charger on the wall! How did I manage that?!

It%26#39;s Paula. This is amazing to me because it%26#39;s 10-something in the morning. I forgot that she has to check out by 11. We discuss her evening, %26amp; agree to meet at the Metropolitan. I need food. The leftover steak %26amp; salad in the fridge is not on the morning menu of what my stomach will allow. I check in with the office, manage to pull myself togther %26amp; head off to the Met. The food hit the spot.

On Friday, I could not hit the broad side of a barn gaming-wise. We went to Showboat, I lost there, I lost on every machine I hit at the Borg, but it didn%26#39;t hurt as much. I got in for a pedicure at 5:30 and I was so tired my feet weren%26#39;t even ticklish. Note to self-always get a pedicure on the brink of exhaustion-much easier on the girl who is giving me the service. I decided to go to Wolfgang Puck%26#39;s for dinner as I had never been there in al the time it%26#39;s been open. I had the ricotta gnocchi with bolognese sauce %26amp; shaved Parmesan %26amp; italian parsley. It was excellent %26amp; the food that was delivered to the guys sitting at the bar with me looked excellent also. I would definitely eat there again.

Good thing I am not 30 and do not have the bounce-back ablity I had in those days or I could have probably lost all my winnings based on the way things went during the day! I went to bed immediately after dinner, tried to watch Howie, but my eyelids were lead weights and nothing was going to keep them open.

Saturday I awoke at 7, so I had a good 11 hour nap. I went downstairs %26amp; was able to get on the new Wizard of Oz machine. That was certainly interesting. I went from $145 to $290 in the blink of an eye %26amp; back to zero just as quickly. The max bet is $3.20 so it doesn%26#39;t take long to get there! Saturday was my spa day so I had a massage %26amp; a facial booked and both were wonderful as usual.

After that I hit the boards revived %26amp; refreshed. I thought it was very busy, there were a lot of people out. I walked from the Boat all the way down to the Trop weaving in and out of shops %26amp; casinos along the way. Dropped some $$ in both. I spent a couple of hours in the Trop playing Stinkin Rich and the machines were actually quite good there. The way they used to hit everywhere. That was fun. I was disappointed to see that the TinderBox in the Trop has closed. I%26#39;m surprised that a wine/cigar shop failed in there. They had great wines that were reasonably priced. I was looking to buy one, and I don%26#39;t know where else you can buy a bottle now that that and the WineBar at the Borg has closed. Any suggestions anyone? Needs to be something you don%26#39;t need a car to get to.

Saturday nite (3 nites for me this was a long visit!!) I dined at the Amphora %26amp; then had a brief visit with Sue %26amp; Al %26amp; then went back to the QuickHits. I went up %26amp; down on these for a few hours, playing on the same machine I won on. I finished up down %26amp; went to bed at 1. Took the early train home and can hope and dream of a repeat performance on my next trip!

And Jerrysnj--yes, I am going to Vegas at the end of July so the timing was perfect!! :)

Thanks for the great report as usual. No wonder AC has supposedly been raking in a little less these days. Or, is it that us who lose $500 here and $500 there don%26#39;t feel very motivated to post many reports? Yet, I have a feeling we are in the majority!

thats great! i agree with you on sticking around after your handpay. ive only had a few in my lifetime but ive always managed to add to my winnings sitting there and playing on the credits i still had in the machine after getting paid. never got a 2nd handpay but more often than not ive hit for more than what i had remaining, sort of a bonus

    Our visit

We were very glad for the parking garage-very bad lightening storm when we got there. Valet was backed up some. We liked the feel of the casino, big and open, not as smokey as Mt Airy. Could not find Mr Cashman!!! The same thing happened here as at Mt Airy during their opening weeks, all the voucher machines except for a couple were down, so the lines were VERY LONG. Cashier line was about 50 people long but went fairly quickly. I would say the machines were the same as AC or LV, hit or miss. I won $100 on a bonus on Glamour Kitty? with sticky wilds (I love those sticky wilds!) husband lost about the same. Cocktail servers were very scarse and the one we got although very nice was new at her job, wasn%26#39;t calling for drinks but she allowed us to wave her down :-D Drinks in larger plastic cups than in AC or Mt Airy. No bottled beer that I could see, just large cups. When we left the parking garage line was out to the road and so was the valet parking!! They had a lot of employees in the parking garage directing traffic. Did not check the restaurants, the food court type place looked nice. That was our short trip to THE SANDS BETHLEHEM.

Do you, (or anybody), know what the hours there are? Are they open 24 hours? We are planning to stop by tomorrow.

Hours are 24/7.Drink service(Booze)ends at 2a.m.starts again at 7a.m.Spacious Casino.Still work going on,so a little hairy getting in and out of parking.Great slection of Slots,Many,Many I have Never seen.Have Fun!!!

We were there on Sunday morning and a cocktail waitress said they could not serve alcohol until 11am.

Its NEW.7 or 11,They will get it ironed out,Many different stories on Casino opening!!!Waitress said its the same hours as Pa. bars but_____________???

Hi you got your questions answered :-) I would say I like it better because of being less smokey, I think Mt Airy is very smokey, but Mt Airy has Mr Cashman and I couldn%26#39;t find any-maybe I just missed them but I don%26#39;t think so-at The Sands. The Sands did have a bunch of slots I have never seen before like Moneywho mentioned. Patty

Do all the places in PA have the same alcohol policy?

likecraps.No.All casinos are different.Sands is the only one that opened giving free alcohol. It seems this law for booze has been left up to Local laws instead of the gov. saying how it should be.Also don%26#39;t know if locals can name the drinkimg hours. Will keep a check!!!

That should make for interesting competition if one place has a more liberal drink policy.

I remember when I used to go out in CT and the bars/clubs could not give alcohol away (You know free drinks before 11) so you had to give them a nickel to make it legal.

Not trying to start an argument with anyone, just repeating what I was told.

We got there around 9am. When a cocktail server asked if we wanted something, I asked for an Amaretto and OJ, and she told me they were not able to serve alcohol until 11AM. At about 10:55 am we were in another part of the casino and a different server asked if we would like something to drink, and I didn%26#39;t know what time it was, so I asked for the same drink as before and she said I would have to wait another 5 minutes before she could serve alcohol.

Everyone I came in contact with was very nice and friendly. Contrary to what I read elsewhere the bathrooms were clean and stocked with the essentials.

I agree that they have new slots, most of which I haven%26#39;t seen before.

Saw Emeril in the kitchen of his new restaurant.

I%26#39;ll be back, especially since its 35 minutes away!

Private Place to See the Sunset?

I know about Sunset Point, but I%26#39;m looking for a place somewhere that is a little more private and romantic where we can pull up a couple beach chairs, sit by the ocean, and watch the sun go down.

Is there any hole in the wall place that anyone knows of and can recommend?

Private Place to See the Sunset?

A good place might be somewhere in North Cape May by the Cape May Lewes Ferry. Plenty of beach that are almost empty. Sunsets over the Delaware Bay are just as spectacular. Been there plenty of times and they are just great. Harpoon Henrys is the place to go up on the bay to view the Sunset from the Restaurant or their Huge Deck. www.harpoonhenrys.net is their website, there are pictures there of the wonderful sunsets.

Private Place to See the Sunset?

Awesome...thanks Pat - Can you actually see the sunset from the beach, or do you have to go up to the restaurant to see it?

Do you think even at this time of year there would be a smaller crowd there?

Again, thanks so much for your advice.

You can see the sunset from the beach. If you drive along Sandman Blvd toward the Ferry, stay straight when the entrance to the Ferry is on the left. At the end of the road there%26#39;s a parking lot, or you can turn right and drive along the bay. There%26#39;s an occasional bench, or you can go down onto the beach.

Even at this time of year, it%26#39;s less crowded than Sunset Beach. Weeknights are likely to have fewer people than weekends.

Park at Sunset Beach - take a right along the beach shoreline - walk 5-10 minutes and you will be all by yourself.

Local Sailor took the words out of my mouth. I was going to suggest the same thing. You%26#39;ll see some old bathhouses on your right as you walk away from Sunset Beach and you need only walk a few minutes for some privacy.

It%26#39;s actually quite nice and peaceful. The area by the ferry is also a good choice, though. Maybe you%26#39;ll have to try each of them!

    Hi Joe,

Looks like you got some great suggestion. Choose both or just one. You will not be disappointed.
