Looking for a nice Hotel on the Beach in Cape May

Does anyone recommend a charming hotel or b%26amp;b in Cape May? I%26#39;d prefer something on the beach, or very close thereto. Preferably less than $450 a night.

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

While there are only 2 B%26amp;B%26#39;s directly on the beachfront, almost all of the others are within 2 or three blocks and many offer ocean views. The two beachfront inns are the Peter Shields Inn and Rythm by the Sea. Both are very nice and charming, with Peter Shields being a bit more upscale and also offering a highly-rated(Zagat) restaurant on the site.

A block from the ocean, you will find some really nice inns like the Queen Victoria, John F. Craig, John Wesley Inn, Windward House, Bedford, Fairthorne and more. I highly recommend any of the ones I mnentioned, they all offer tremendous accomodations, period furnishings, very attentive innkeepers and superior amenities. That%26#39;s not to say that other inns aren%26#39;t also great, many of them are. I just didn%26#39;t want to overload you with a thousand choices... lol.

There are a number of traditional beachfront hotels available as well, ranging from the full-efficiency of a condotel at Summer Station to the luxury of a higher-end historic hotel at Congress Hall and many more in between. Check out www.capemay.com for all the hotel listings.

Incidentally, Cape May has a road (Beach Avenue) between the hotels and the beach, so technically, no hotels are directly on the beach. It%26#39;s a nice advantage, though, because there is a lovely promenade that is not encumbered with hundreds of amusements and other businesses like nearly every other boardwalk at seaside resorts arounnd the country.

Have a wonderful trip and let us know if there is anything else we may help with!

The Summer Station is not a bad place.

The Periwinkle is adequate also, but a bit further to the center of town.

Summer Station is a great place to stay. You can check out ocean front hotels on www.capemay.com %26amp; wwwcapemaytimes.com If you have google earth you can pin point each hotel %26amp; B%26amp;B.

Google Earth is nice, but I%26#39;m a big fan of the Live Search maps. Check this one out and make sure to click to ';Bird%26#39;s Eye View';-

Hello Sandy

It is true there are no B%26amp;B%26#39;s or hotel/motels directly on the beach in Cape May - they are located on the other side of Beach Avenue which is next to the ocean and beach - starting from one end of Beach Avenue all the way to the other end you will find many motels - hotels and some B%26amp;B%26#39;s

Some motels are smaller and some hotels/motels larger with swimming pools and restaurants - the B%26amp;B%26#39;s are on a smaller scale and some do not accept children if you are coming with a family - you should ask what is their policy

Most visitors and people in Cape May consider the ';center'; of the ';old town'; to be between Beach Avenue and Washinton Street from Perry Street to Ocean Street where many B%26amp;B%26#39;s - restaurants - and shops are located - there are also about 3 historic hotels located in this area

You should get on to capemay.com or cape may times web sites and view all places to get a good idea of what Cape May offers and what would be best for you

Hi Sandy,

If we read your question correctly and the upper limit of your budget is $450.00 per night you will have the full menu of choices to stay.

Thinking outside the ';BOX'; I would look into the ';Delas Agency'; and investigate what renting a condo at the Famed ';Seamist'; would run. Rumor has it they have not sold them all and the developer is considering summer rentals.

The view from any of the Verandas is to die for.

The downside is you wont have the amentites you would have at Congress Hall, but you would be in Sparkling new construction in one of the grandest places in town.

John
