More Competition for AC

Posted on our local newspaper website (app.com). I wish NJ would get on the ball and legalize sports betting!

Sports betting and table games such as craps and roulette will be legal in Delaware by week%26#39;s end.

After less than 40 minutes of discussion and scant dissent Tuesday, the state Senate made no changes to the controversial gaming bill before passing it 17-2 and sending it to Gov. Jack Markell, who said he will sign it in the next few days.

The bill%26#39;s quick approval by the Senate was a stark contrast to the reception it received last week in the House. There, a previous version of the bill was voted down before intense negotiations among Markell%26#39;s administration, legislators and lobbyists led to the revised bill that was passed early Friday morning.

';I%26#39;m very pleased that the Senate acted quickly to pass the sports lottery legislation,'; Markell said. ';I want to make clear that with the passage of this bill it%26#39;s now time to move forward and work cooperatively with our business partners.';

Wow. Table games in Delaware? That%26#39;s baaaaaaad news for Atlantic City... possibly the worst news for them yet. I know lots of people who really only drove all the way to AC just because they%26#39;re table players and couldn%26#39;t do that in DE, which is 2-3 hours closer and doesn%26#39;t involve New Jersey Turnpike or ferry costs!

I don%26#39;t know much with regards to sports betting but the fact that they%26#39;ve got it and NJ doesn%26#39;t can%26#39;t be good, either.

More Competition for AC

in 1992, the Fed offered legal sports betting to states and NJ, which had a special exemption built into the law, let it pass w/o signing up. nj.com/news/…a_poll_shows_new_jersey.html excerpt:

%26#39;The 1992 law restricts sports betting to the four states that met a deadline to sign up for it: Nevada, where Las Vegas sports books determine the odds for sporting events across the country; Delaware; Montana; and Oregon.

The law carved out a special exemption for New Jersey, giving it a chance to decide if it wanted legal sports betting. The state failed to enact a law that would have done so, and the exemption window closed.%26#39;

Here u are NJ, u want it? we wrote it esp 4u, c%26#39;mon.

Thanks for the update. We have been waiting for real table games in Delaware. The slots have a lower payback than AC since they are lottery machines. But I mostly play BJ or Spanish 21.

With the cost of the ferry and the 3 hour trip to AC....the Dover Downs Casino with it%26#39;s nice hotel will be a nice change.

Will still make the trip to AC for Margaritaville if and when it materializes.

Good Luck!

Wow! is right!

Dover is beautiful and my sister is favoring it more and more already.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. . .
