Beach Jam????????

Has anyone ever taken their scout troop to Beach Jam? If so, what was it like? Was it worth it? Would you do it again? Just trying to decicde what we want to do for the end of year. Thanks.

Beach Jam????????

I am looking for info on the same topic. I%26#39;m thinking of taking my troop of high school girls to this event and wanted to hear from other leaders who have done so. Thanks to anyone who replies! CecileP

Beach Jam????????

I%26#39;m a troop leader from Monmouth County and I have been to Beach Jam 4 times I have had my GS girl there 3 times -- I have Cadette girls 7th grade -- they love it -- you can%26#39;t beat the price for the weekend - it%26#39;s very well done and organized -- excursion trips we do on our own it%26#39;s more reasonable --- the bathrooms on the beach for the troops are clean and maintained and flushable too !!! The other bathrooms under the boardwalk and by the waterpark which are all useable for the troops are well kept and maintained. Showers available in the bathrooms near the waterpark - bring all your necessary items baggies and labels with girls names on them -- flip flops for the showers are needed too !! The food is decent for the price - food available of course for lunch on the boardwalk too - lots of variety - there are many choices for all !! Bring rain gear especially - you just never know -- Big piece of advice bring sleds -to transport your gear on the sand easily -- you can glide everything across the parking lots to the boarwalk and then onto the sand --- The best area to use to get on the beach is near the main bathrooms on the beach near the McDonalds restaurant !!! they have ramps otherwise you will need to use the stairs. BUT the sleds - the long plastic kind are very useful! Troop flag to post near your area as well as yellow ';CAUTION TAPE'; to corner off your area -- as I have had a bad experience our first time down - a troop from PA decided that they wanted the area where our coolers and chairs were set up while we were away and they set up tents right on top of ours -- they were rude and inconsiderate and we let them know it too !!! Be courteous of your neighbors and be well mannered and all we get along !!! If your girls like to ride the rides then you can%26#39;t beat the price!!!

Camping on sand is better then in the woods and I%26#39;ve camped many years as a kid -- it%26#39;s much easier espeically if you have girls who don%26#39;t like to camp!

No fires allowed by individual troops - but there is a BonFire on Saturday night !! Have the girls bring their soccer balls, kites, chairs -- Saturday can be a leisure day to see the sights in the area of Wildwood - like CapeMay or StoneHarbor which are great places to visit if you haven%26#39;t ever been there - otherwise chilling on the beach if it%26#39;s nice weather and having things for the kids to do helps alot!!!!

Tents are needed of course - tarps for underneath help if it rains as well as tarps on top of your tents too !! Air mattress%26#39;s are helpful or cots if you have a bad back!!!

Come and enjoy at least once - Families are welcome too ! Just remember to tell all that there are rules to follow and it helps to have cell phones so you can keep in touch if you have older kids.

ENJOY!!!!

Thanks, Shoretroop for the info. My troop decided (as of now) to go to Montreal instead. But I will keep the beach jam in mind for my younger troop of 5th graders in the future. It sounds really cool!

thanks for all the info. just a couple of ???? do you need special stakes for the sand for the tents? Also are the rides included in the price?

Rides, meals and camping is $59 per person, $39 for Non-riders

I beleive this year they changed it in past it was only 1 pier allowed for rides I think everything is included even water rides (Probably not warm enough though)

Well I suggest to get metal stakes its easier in the sand and support it better, I also recommend using Tie-Downs since bad weather can come quickly and you dont want to lose your tent. Also get a good tent, I seen so many bad ones and the bad ones will topple over or you will lose them, Remember its usually windy.

Here%26#39;s the price list for beach jam.

I don%26#39;t think the water parks open that early, if they do you%26#39;re right, it would be very chilly.

I went last yr and water rides werent open but I read somewhere this yr they will be but I wouldnt use it. Also I think only 1 pier you could use the rides now I think everything is included but probably go karts as this you had to pay for. I think its worth it.

Hi,

I%26#39;ve gone to beach jam the past 2 years %26amp; had a great time. I liked it better than camping in the woods, but that is beacuse I love the beach! You must know a few things; the spring camping seems better than the fall beacuse the trip includes Friday-Sunday (rides 3 days for 3 piers AND unlimited rides on the tram car).

I%26#39;ve heard the one in the fall is the same weekend as the monster truck jam.

Remember that what gets packed has to be carried/ dragged out to the beach spot %26amp; back. Be organized about keeping people with the stuff, someone to drop off parents %26amp; kids, someone to stay w/ stuff-everyone knows to wait for other to catch up, which way they are going etc.

Have a door mat for outside the tent, dust pan %26amp; brush, enoughbottled water %26amp; paper towels. I use these to keep the sand out of the tent. Call me crazy but we bought air matresses and battery powered pump at walmart. We have the best time because we sleep well and aren%26#39;t covered with sand all weekend.

The food is good, bathrooms and washing water is adequate, everone chips in, there is a Giant capfire Sat night %26amp; singing GS songs. You meet people from all over, boardwalk foor, fun rides, bring a frisby or a kite, splash around in the water (we only go up to the knees, collect shells and of course the rides. We take the tram from one end of the boardwalk %26amp; back (something we could never afford to do normally, since it would be like $5 a person one way). I always get coffe before the girls get up in the morning (on the boardwalk). We%26#39;ll be going again for sure!

Thanks kholl1724!

You jogged my memory. I recall seeing folks with those plastic toboggans, loaded with supplies, polling them across the sand to their campsite. Sure beats lugging everything across the sand.

Evenings are cool. so be prepared.

The tramcar is $2 each way....round trip $4...not $5.

Enjoy!
